I admit, I am torn about this entire situation. A part of me wants to see OSU at full strength against Arkansas and finally get this damn SEC monkey off our back, and another part of me wants to see Tress man up and suspend all 5 players for the game for their idiotic actions.

That being said, let's hear it, what would you prefer?

A) All five players are permitted to play in the Sugar Bowl. Pryor finishes with 350 total yards, including a TD to Posey in the final seconds, while winning the MVP in a 30-27 OSU victory.

B) All five players are suspended, yet, OSU plays inspired football, losing on a last second FG 23-21. Feels good ethically, but final result certainly stings.

Thoughts?

Can I vote for a C?

No way A....the win will be tainted forever, and will be meaningless. I can't stand Pat Forde but his current article on espn.com is spot on. These guy's shouldn't play. If they are to be suspended, it is a joke that there's a mulligan for the Sugar Bowl.

The whole thing is a mess.

If it were UC having to make the decision I would go with B. I'm assuming most OSU fans would lean that direction too.

It's a tough call. On one hand, the punishment is already ridiculous, so you want to take what you can get. On the other hand, they are all idiots and don't deserve to play in this game if they are suspended for games after this one. I don't know what to think. I do know that if Bauserman plays against Arkansas we won't keep the game within 40 points.

My thought on the other thread:

IMO and I may take some backlash for this but I would NOT suspend them for the bowl game. The punishment has been issued, and it sounds like the NCAA was involved so it should be case closed for now at least! What is the worse that happens, we forfiet bowl win? Who cares!! If it's not the national title does it really matter? I say if they saw fit to allow them to play or not be suspended for the bowl, so be it!

YES these trophies, etc. are property of the players and YES they should be free to do whatever they want with their own property but the rules are the rules...and they broke 'em.

Tress should bench these guys for their obvious disdain for the meaning behind the awards and for breaking NCAA rules as dumb as the rules are.

Let's give the second stringers some very valuable bowl game experience and build on next season regardless of the outcome. The SEC monkey may still be there but keep in mind it took a suspension of 5 key players for Arkansas to keep the SEC streak alive.

Let's move on.

B. In a heartbeat. And Clevelandbuck, my guess is IF Pryor would miss the bowl game, Guiton would start, not Bauserman. Mop up duty at the end of a 40 point blowout is one thing, letting Bauserman play. It's quite another having to start and play someone other than your starting QB all game against a good team. The staff isn't braindead, and I think that they would realize that without Pryor, Guiton brings the most to the table in terms of filling Pryor's shoes while he's out. The offense is designed around an athletic, mobile QB. Guiton fits that role 10x's better than Bauserman. JMO.

Call me biased, but I don't know that Ohio State loses with these clowns sitting on the bench. Guiton just has to manage the game, there are plenty of skill guys to fill in, and the defense isn't touched at all. Adams would be a loss, but I am confident in our depth. Oh, and I don't think Arkansas is very good, especially with how good our secondary has performed.

But you ignore that it's not a simple matter of plugging the gaps with new athletes even if they are talented. The team has gelled over the season with TP & Co. To change that chemistry midstream despite team depth will not be a good thing.

I agree; It will not be a thing of beauty. But I think our D can stop their O. I also think we have enough talent offensively to string together some points. Thus, my prediction even if you disagree :)

OSU is fourth in the nation in defensive passing YPG and fourth in defensive passing efficiency. Chekwa was a Thorpe semi finalist and the secondary has played well overall. Your defense isn't third in the nation in scoring and 2nd in total defense without a solid secondary unit.

Maybe I'm evaluating a bit differently then but all I see in the secondary game after game is guys who chase, chase, and chase some more in pass coverage and are more interested in delivering a knockout blow than wrapping up and making a tackle, or like late in the Iowa game maybe picking it off and taking it the other way to change the tempo of the game.

I think Chekwa is gawd awful

I agree. I think outside of Torrence, our secondary is subpar for a team that is considered one of the dozen or so "elite" teams in CFB year in and year out. Hines is very good in run support and tackling, but he's not great in coverage. Chekwa has been burnt so many times over the course of his career that I don't think I can count that high. I like young guys like Howard and Barnett before he was injured, but I'm not sure they have the experience to consistently keep a QB like Mallett down all game.
