The thing I don't understand is why now?

You're having a great season, the AP, fans, and the commissioner are praising your "rehabilitation", mentioning you as a posterchild for second chances, and you're being touted as a possible MVP candidate and you bust out with "I want a dog."

How stupid can you be? Seriously...

Someone probably asked and he answered honestly. Media shows everything like this out of context

Yeah, they do, can't argue that, but he would certainly have been better served to answer the question differently. It's not like he shouldn't expect to be set up during interviews.

Truth. Honestly i think he's a scumbag, but he's entertaining to watch. I'd rather him play and just not get any media hype outside of philly. Mostly cause i think philly teams and fans are total ass hats and I want nothing to do with them

Put yourself in his shoes....

So if the reporter asked him if he wants to get a dog in the future, and he wants to get one for his children, how would you answer it??

"Given my circumstances surrounding my recent incarceration, I would think it best to leave that question for a later time. How I deal with those issues in regards to my family are matters I prefer to keep private."

Smart and educated answer....now apply those words to michael vick. He was being honest and the media ran with it. I think they're making a story out of nothing, i bet more people would rather him not get any coverage than negative coverage

It's not that he's letting them back him into a corner, it's them cornering him and being helpless about it. Press interviews nowadays are so brutal and people are always framing questions trying to spin it into a story, it's pathetic and I hate journalists for it.

Hire a damn PR guy then. It's really that simple. Whether he's backed into a corner because of his ignorance or not, he's still allowing it by not being prepared. He has the means, he can be coached, it's not something he needs to have done to him. I agree about it being a despicable practice but it can be averted imo.

I used to teach professionals how to handle media situations like this.

It's not that hard to do. Even a douche like Vick could probably pick it up pretty quickly.

Much easier said than done though. And he's not going to have the PR guy next to him during the interivew, that's just insane (I'm not saying you're suggesting this). Vick has pretty much been a a model citizen since he came back into the spotlight and honestly I don't even think he said anything wrong. If he dodges the question the media will still try and spin it, so why not be honest about it?

No, you dodge the question. Given the spotlight it's better to allow speculation than to open the can of worms that got you in trouble in the first place. Certainly he's able to be coached on this question, one that would be on the top of every single PR guys list of possibilities, the fact the question was asked proves that. He may not be the smartest guy, but I'd be willing to bet he breaths through his nose and I don't see his knuckles bloodied from dragging them on the ground. He's smart enough to listen to what he's being coached...I think.

It is said that you can judge a man's character by how he treats his dogs. That said, if Michael Vick was smart, he would never bring up the subject of dogs in public.

The OP said he did in at least one other interview...hence the title/purpose of this thread. Vick's agent needs to make sure that Vick stay away from talking about dogs. It is a very negatively associated with his name.

Murdski99...I hope you didn't take my previous post personally.
You may think it's bullshit, and I may think it's bullshit, but there are a lot of people that don't....and you don't even need to be a member of PETA to think that way. From a public relations standpoint Vick needs to concentrate on football and just stay away from the subject of dogs, period.
