LOVE the Midwest and Heartland idea! Not sure if you came up with that or read it somewhere, but it's brilliant!

i came up with it.

j_crazy may have come up with it as well, but I also thought of it ex nihilo (my guess is that a lot of people had the same idea all on their own). I thought of it about a day after the "X" and "O" divisions were announced back in the fall.

And they aren't waiting a year, he said they would revisit the names the first of the year. They have some time to play with too. If they are going to change them they really need to make sure they get it right this time. I would say that have until July 1 when Nebraska officially joins the conference to make a change.

There's no guarantee that they will change their minds, he just said they'll revisit the names in January. It's possible that they'll keep them. I think he hopes that people will warm up to the names, but with a nearly universal disapproval of them I don't see how many people will change their minds of them. And it's not like people are just ambivalent about it, most really hate the names.

Here's a logo someone over on Bucknuts came up with, along with division names.

In the thread the poster said it only took him 20 minutes to do it.

I do like that logo, and I think it would be sweet to do something similar if they chose those division names, although they would still need something like that they came up with to just say "Big Ten" since these divisions only matter in football.

I like X's and O's. They threw it out on the fan today as a joke, but I think it would be pretty cool.

To me this makes it sound like the conference was beat up. When someone get's pummeled you say that they were left "black and blue." Also, Michigan, Penn State, Illinois, Purdue, and Iowa would love these names because they have those colors in their team colors, but every other team would hate it. As a Buckeye fan I hate Blue and would not want to compete to win the Blue Division.

Those were the temporary names that the Big Ten gave to the divisions when they announced how they would be divided back in the fall.

Had to let them breath a little bit, going to do some market research, can't know how they'll do until they're used....damn there are some stupid people in charge of this shit.

Just post what you think are some good choices a few months ahead of time, you'll get all the damn feedback you'll need to make an informed decision. These idiots won't admit defeat and we'll be stuck with this horseshit.

I can't imagine that they didn't do some sort of market research for this. I just imagine a group of Joe Paterno's high school class mates in a focus group picking these names out.

Beside just being overall stupid names generally, they sound like pompous, arrogant assholes. I'm all for tradition and nostalgia, but it's just ridiculous. Gotta move a little further ahead on the time line.

Yeah, I can't remember who it was that said this (Pat Forde maybe), but he said that someone should have told Delaney that they are just division names, not political statements.
