this is a silly post. The SEC teams never schedule out of conference games against any decent team. Now I understand the argument that they shouldn't since the conference schedule is tough. But I just laugh at posters that are saying the SEC is that much better than anyone...lots of parity everywhere this year, that conference included. The SEC is not what it was a couple of years ago and I have a feeling we are going to see that when bowl season rolls around.

Um, sure. LSU had UNC and WVU scheduled this year (be4 UNC got busted). They play Oregon and WVU next year. Sounds like they play a couple tough non-con's a year and usually 4 or 5 ranked SEC teams.
The SEC is not what they were a couple years ago? We here this EVERY year, and no one has ever proved that statement.

Your hanging your hat on UNC and WVU? UNC....do they even have a football team? And WVU is in the fucking big east...just a BAD CONFERENCE! Period! Comical!

Never? Va Tech, Penn State, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina (was supposed to be at least decent this year if not for eligibility issues), Oregon, Georgia Tech, Clemson off the top of my head...

We will see....I am not a SEC hater for the most part, I just don't think the teams are as strong this year. And I don't give a shit about the cupcake schedules since the conferences are competitive enough....

Remember, we schedule games "years in advance". UNC was ranked before all the allegations. WVU is ranked and is always good.
OSU's schedule is the laughing stock of college football. Eastern Mich, Ohio, Marshall, and Miami. ROGL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next year LSU plays WVU and OREGON
OSU plays Miami and Colorado.............whoo, your tough non con games are very tough......ROGL!!!!!!!!

I will never criticize teams for scheduling the WVUs and Miamis of the world...since it is done so far in advance.

You're right, it all matters where they end up. And the Big Ten has 3 ranked in the top ten, just like the SEC.

So the top teams in the Big Ten played Notre Dame (7-5), Arizona State (5-6), and Miami (7-5) as their marquee games. The top SEC teams played Clemson (6-6), TAM (9-3), WVU (8-3), and UNC (7-5).

The middle pack teams for the Big Ten played Arizona (7-4), Missouri (10-2), Alabama (9-3), UConn (7-4), and Notre Dame (again - 7-5). The SEC's middle teams played Oregon (11-0), Florida State (9-3), Penn State (7-5), Clemson (6-6), and GT (6-6).

I'm interested to know the major difference in scheduling that makes you say that about the SEC but suggests other conferences (namely, the Big Ten) schedule so much tougher OOC games.

Cats, you are really beating your chest that the SEC opponents have about a whopping 8% better winning percentage than the big 10? Thats a 1 game difference..nothing to brag about.

I'll go on record and say the overrated top 3 in the big 10 go now worse than 2-1 in their bowl games, and you can quote me on it

I wonder how this thread would have turned out if the same exact thread had not been made by CGW.

I think it should be noted that most teams in the country who are on top don't really care about scheduling grueling schedules. It's the age we live in, make it through a mediocre at best schedule undefeated and let your team's clout get you into the BCS National Championship. The days of common big time matchups are sadly ending.

I at least will give credit to Ohio State for one traditional power a season. When it's Southern Cal or Texas and they're elite teams it means a lot. When it's Washington and Miami and they aren't very good though, it makes the schedule a joke. Ohio State's schedule this year is a joke. I don't know how anyone can really say otherwise, and that's why I have such an issue with Gee's comments. I really like the guy, but he is just wrong.

I think the Big Ten is trending upward, but this year the big flaw is that Ohio State and Michigan State didn't play each other. Wisconsin is the only team in the Big Ten with a tough conference schedule, but they lost to Michigan State so it moot. This is just a bad situation for the Big Ten. A three-way tie with your best schools is not good, so much--too much, is left to speculation. Wisconsin has won big so they have maintained the lead but no one really knows. In that sense, the OP is correct.

Now, 2011 will be a GREAT year for the conference. Ohio State is Ohio State and will maintain being a top team for at least 2011. Dantonio and Bielema have established top programs in my opinion at Michigan State and Wisconsin. Nebraska is phenomenal, and will take care of their inconsistency issues this off-season. Penn State will more than likely rebound. Iowa is always solid. Plenty of good teams right there. Add a Northwestern coach who will improve that program too and an Illinois that can do some things and who've got a conference that may challenge the SEC.

In all honesty, MSU, Wisky, and OSU would all win the SEC. Iowa and Penn State could probably take the east(and really, Northwestern would probably be in the mix).

The only reason there are more ranked teams is the SEC bias, which would slowly decay once the Big Ten dominates the SEC again, in the bowl games.

I do think that its BS that the SEC seems to have this birhtright that they belong in the title game just because of the toughness of their league. The Bottom line at the moment, is that the system is designed to match two teams who are undefeated and untied to play for the title. If two teams fail to exist, then there inveitably are problems involved
