Those calls were definitely crap, and they weren't even consistent throughout the game because I believe that Hall did this after his kickoff return and wasn't flagged for it.

Posey wasn't flagged for the dive. One of the other OSU players ran into the endzone and made the O and that was what the flag was for.

My guess is that this wasn't emphasized to the coaches before the game because if it had been then they would have emphasized it to the players and it wouldn't have happened. But honestly, if you give 19 and 20 year old kids gloves that are designed to make your logo when you hold hands up together then you're going to do just that when you score or do something big.

Overall the officials in this game seemed clueless. I've never seen Tressel get as livid at the refs as he did in this game. I would hope that he files a grievance with the league office to have them review this game and I think he probably will.

You should be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct if you celebrate in the end-zone. What constitutes celebration is the real question. I'd like to see them take all that stuff to the sidelines where they can make all the "Os" they want.

Posey was flagged for the "O" and not the dive. The ref clearly said "after the touchdown" it would not have gotten called back if it was for the dive. That rule takes effect next year.

So many incorrect statements on here that I can't quot ethem all:

1. Santonio Holmes was flagged in both the UM and ND games, but both were NOT for diving. UM was for diving as no one was really that close to preventing him from getting in the endzone. The ND one was for pointing up at the sky before getting into the endzone at which point Zibby almost knocked the ball out of Holmes hands.
2. Posey WAS flagged for the dive. I found this to be a crappy call because two defneders were coverging on him from both sides and I can see why he felt it necessary to dive into the end zone.
3. The Block O flag was then after the Herron TD, NOT the Posey TD. After Herron went to a knee, Adams (#75) came into the picutre and flashed the Block O on his gloves to the crows. The call in this one was for flashing a sign to the crowd.

Hope this clears everything up.

He was flagged for dive, not block o. Others have dove into the end zone this year and everytime the penalty has been assessed on the kick off. You must not watch much football.

I have no idea what Posey was flagged for. If it was the dive, it was weak.
The foul being a live ball foul comes into effect next year.
Both diving and communicating with fans are unsportsmanlike and both can either be on the try of on the kickoff.
The play ends when the ball crosses the plane in possession, so the foul (completing the dive) was technically after the score.
Every game is reviewed by the Big Ten office, coaches clip specific plays and submit questions.

SECTION 2. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Fouls
Unsportsmanlike Acts
ARTICLE 1. There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct or any act
that interferes with orderly game administration on the part of players,
substitutes, coaches, authorized attendants or any other persons subject to
the rules, before the game, during the game or between periods.
a. Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:
1. No player, substitute, coach or other person subject to the rules shall
use abusive, threatening or obscene language or gestures, or engage
in such acts that provoke ill will or are demeaning to an opponent, to

Funny to claim incorrect statements and then make bold proclamations on what the call was for. Can you cite your source that tells you what the foul was for? I am 99% certain it was NOT for diving.

Ummm, did you watch the game?? Just because a ref in this game said it, doesn't mean they knew what the fuck they were talking about. To quote one of the refs : "The down will be three".

Don't use plural verbiage when you are only questioning one of three statements. No, I don't have a source NO ONE DOES because they don't track the reasons for penalties (nor did the ref announce what the unpsrtsmanlike conduct was like they did for Adams).

...yet the cameras showed an official in the back of the end zone throwing a flag following the touchdown. He was staring right at a player....not the the ball carrier but a lineman making the Block O symbol.

Indeed often times they are. After seeing the camera shot of the official who thew the flag and listening to the announcers also comment on that camera shot my opinion was formed that the dive had nothing to do with the penalty.

I HATE hotdogging in college and pro ball. But being flagged for the "O" gesture to the fans is a little over-the-top. I think Big 10 officials should flag players for excessive celebration, especially actions by players that scream, "Hey look at me. Aren't I the greatest?"

To me hotdogging is jumping up after the play and clearly drawing attention to one's self rather than celebrating the play or touchdown. The "O" gesture is not about drawing attention to self.

Common-sense should rule here. The Big 10 officials blew common-sense out the door yesterday.

So THIS is Unsportsmanlike? Why have Nike make the gloves to do this anyway then? lol

It is a NCAA rule in 2011 for all conferences at all levels.

I just rewatched the game and it's clear that the flag on Posey was for making the "O" and not for leaping into the endzone. If it was, the flag would have come out immediately. It didn't. It wasn't thrown until after he had given the "O" sign to the crowd.

Calling that a penalty is weak, but if you technically aren't allowed to make signs to the crowd then I understand it. What bothers me is that Sanzenbacher did it when he scored the first TD and Hall did it after the kickoff return. Neither were subtle about it and neither got flagged. If you're going to call it then call it consistently throughout the game.

I also still have no idea how this was possibly holding by Sanzenbacher or how he got flagged and the Michigan player didn't. I guarantee that when OSU breaks down this game film that Sanz will got a pat on the back for a nice clean block from his coach.









These refs were absolutely clueless yesterday. I reffed intramurals in college and I'm pretty sure that I knew what I was doing more than these morons did.
