Just curious if the Big Ten has different rules than the Pac-10....If so, is this allowed or can the NCAA make a rule across the board for all conferences? I don't agree with the penalties that were thrown against OSU because I have seen Oregon players do this with no flags. Any info on this?

It's a fair argument regarding potential lack of consistency. I would like to see them flag Oregon also...or at least make certain the rule prohibits such action.

Big Ten refs apparently were told to enforce that stuff in a more strict fashion.
Big Ten is definitely one who would try to make themselves look "above" that stuff by flagging it.

Why should you be flagged for such a mild celebration? Seriously?

There's a million other things a player can do to show up an opponent that deserves to be flagged. Reping your school with an O should be the least of their worries.

Maybe the Big Ten refs didn't realize that the "O" is a Nike design and not a gang sign?

If this is being emphasized by the Big Ten, then they're even more lame and incompetent than I thought (that's saying something). Worry about calling correct plays, not holding when it doesn't exist (Sanzenbacher's block today) or grabbing the facemask (which also happened to Sanzenbacher on the same play).

That was total bullshit without a doubt. The friggin ref was standing right next to the play and completely blew the call. Jim Lachey almost blew a cork on that one on the Ohio State Radio Network.

one thing is for sure: OSU probably won't be wearing those Nike gloves anymore.

Pretty inconsistent across the board on that stuff this weekend

Yeah those calls were majorly dumb. What was the actual rule infraction?

When Adams did it he said it was because he flashed an O to the fans

Well I realize this, but in the rulebook, what rule was broken? Is it specifically illegal to flash a sign to the fans?

My question is was Posey flagged for the "O" sign or for diving into the endzone. At first I thought the dive (which seemed like a bad call because there were people close enough that he could have felt he needed to) but then after Adams was flagged they showed the Posey and Sanzenbacher did the same. Dane was not flagged but was wondering if Posey was flagged for that or the dive.

Posey getting flagged when there were two defenders closing in on him was just awful.

It wasn't for the dive. I believe that gets called back if it's called, and it's only called when it is considered flaunting, which it clearly was not.

It doesn't get called back. Happened to Santonio Holmes against ND in 2005

Back then it didn't. I know last year there was talk of changing this for this year and making it so it is called back. Didn't think they went through with that plan though.

I'm FAR from an OSU fan and I hate hot-dogging/showboating. That being said, the "Block O" celebration penalty was bullshit. No way that should've been called. As others have said, other teams do that quite often and are allowed and I don't think there's a problem with that. A show of school pride and not in the face of a defender. Not a big deal. Bad calls. The dive? Well, if unnecessary I'm kinda against it. I wouldn't be pissed if they let it go but if you don't need to....don't bother. But again, those "Block O" calls were a joke. Let that shit go. That's nothing.

I definitely remember him getting flagged for that in the '06 Fiesta Bowl.
