My problem is threads are becoming predictable. Every Browns thread is going to have 10 Capone bashes and then a battle with him. I don't even bother reading them anymore because it's the same shit, different day. I love debate but it's just a bunch of name calling after the 2nd Capone post. I agree he is annoying but discussion gets ruined fast.

Also every Cavs/Lebron thread is going to be about who use to circle jerk to the thought of Lebron and now hates him.

I'm pretty sure you missed the meaning of my post.

You can create new threads that would appeal to you, no? And those new threads might lead to new discussion, no? If the content is the problem, it is up to the users (i.e. you) to change that. Start new threads on topics that interest you and you might just find some other people that are interested in the same thing.

So the trolls are a problem?

Not necessarily trolls just the end result of each thread.

My threads usually fail because they don't consist of boobs and booty.

I get what Nate is saying.....and honestly, I think that we have lost some discussion on here because certain posters have left because of the trolls. Our problem is that good posters get sucked into the pissing match with the shit stirrer and then the thread turns unreadable.

I don't mind good ribbing but it's to the point where I open a Browns thread and one of the first 5 posts is usually Capone saying something about Cleveland sucks and then the battle begins for 5 more pages. I love talking sports but it ends up being about how Pittsburgh has 6 and Cleveland has 0. I mean, Ohio St. vs Michigan threads end up better than Browns threads.

I don't know. I get tons of hilarity from the "all these private schools suck" crowd, especially since most of their five million posts are written so poorly that it makes a public school education look like a joke.

Our high school football threads really took off, I guess due to our success. And our basketball thread is already off to a great start.

Actually, as annoying as the trolls are, I believe they are responsible for bringing on new members. For example, a troll will make an outlandish comment and "readers" will have finally "had it" and join up to make a response. For those that say "just ignore the trolls"....it's fun to respond! I like the site as it is. Like someone said, it's up to us stalwarts to help improve the site with our commentary. I have enjoyed reading all the comments on this thread from the "Big Dawgs" of "our" site!

We started our soccer site at the same time as Justin started here. While we have just several hundred members, the quality of the conversation is pretty good and as a result we are doing pretty well. I think you have to be careful about growing the site just for the sake of growing it. Linking back to newspapers, etc, is a good idea, but the HS market is pretty staurated with Pay Pay and Yappi. Maybe more emphasis on college. Just thinking out loud.

To be fair, your site had 13 posts in 24 hours yesterday. Now I know that it's nowhere near the peak soccer season, but let's say you get up to 100 posts on the busiest day of the year. In comparison, this site has had 30 posts in the last 30 minutes and it's 2:30 in the morning. You can't tell me at least half of those aren't good posts, or that the conversation here isn't "good quality".

I think if we could get a front page similar in style to this one the site would look great!

What will a front page accomplish other than an unnecessary click? Are you going to write articles on cigars and Christian rock bands? That'll get more people here!

I hate front pages... I usually just make my link to the forum list anyways.

Although front pages do make things seem more official.

this. if the content sucks, a front page isn't going to make any difference. But I think this place is just fine as it is. High five to Justin. :)

My quotes in the basketball forum. Just my opinions:

ernest_t_bass;581227 wrote:Sorry, but just my opinion here... You cannot advertise this site at high school sporting events. This site is not school appropriate, so that wouldn't work. I am a softball coach, actually looking at offering ad space to people. The thought crossed my mind of having an "OhioChatter" banner, but then it quickly dawned on me that if someone from my game saw it, went to the site, and clicked on the "boobs" or "booty" thread, or even the "girls kissing girls" thread, that wouldn't look too good. I personally like this site for what it is, but I would also like to see it more sports oriented. But in its current state, I would not "OK" advertising at a HS event.

ernest_t_bass;581256 wrote:I just personally wouldn't promote it at my HS sporting event, knowing the content of the forum. Just my honest opinion.

I'm guilty of providing such "non-school appropriate" material, so I'm not pointing fingers. I'm just stating that I wouldn't promote this at a school related function, being a school affiliate.

A front page is good if the content is good. What is better than an article written by wes_mantooth while under the influence?
