I do like the idea of user submitted content (a forum post is nothing more than a short "article" anyway) rather than having a dedicated staff paid (hopefully not much) to write articles.

We need to develop some meme's that take off. That'll really put us on teh internets map! :)

I think with user submitted content, you would also get more variety around the state if it were to involve high school sports. If you only had a few set writers, it may not cover enough area.

What about a photoshop/video forum to allow our more talented folks to show off their skills? I'm thinking of the texas site on the thread about those god awful statues. Those videos were hilarious and got noticed by a lot of people. I can't imagine we were the only forum linking there for a laugh and if we drew some kind of traffic here and got noticed on a wider scale, maybe some of those folks would stick around and contribute?

I don't think articles really would drive traffic. I never read the articles on JJ.

As for the trolls, I know you can't get rid of them completely, but if you remove enough of their posts, maybe they will realize they are just wasting their time eventually.

I like the idea of adding some forums for different arenas/interests... Example, I am getting close to reaching the amazing age of 50... (Can't believe it) There are many, many topics to fill a forum full of content for that demographic, from entertainment to technology, insurance/retirement/investing, physical fitness for boomers... how to download a song, do you know how to dougie? LOL... 49 is not as old as many of you young ones think.... I thought that was old age at one time.

Good ideas though... I like what I am hearing.

I beg off many threads once I start seeing a few names pop-up.

For a focus I think it might be of value to brand ourselves like a magazine does like Maxim. Knowing your audience and what they want. Basically about 99% of our folks are guys between what....18-35ish? Sports, chicks, video games, entertainment, tech/gadgets. Not sure how to restructure the forums to meet that but thats what came to mind.

Well isn't that what most 18-35 year old males like? I bet there are no forums about that. The question is how do you find a niche within that and make it ohio centric.

I'll assume that you're not quite sure how the internet works, which is fine, not many people do. Basically, any content that gets indexed by search engines is a good thing. More content, i.e. posts, articles, etc, more things that get indexed that someone might possibly search for.

I agree, its a good way to spread a meme. Ohio related satire is what we should go for. Like a series about amish rake fighting. "Amish rake fighting: choosing the best rake for teh fight" could be one article ect... All you gotta do is get Berry to write all the articles because anyone else will cunt it up and it won't be funny.

The thing with Meme's are that you don't try to promulgate them... they just happen and catch on like wild fire. The more people you have saying stupid shit, posting stupid pictures, etc., the better chances a website has of "creating" a meme.

What about an Ohio "travel guide" section. Essentially things that Ohio has to offer for visitors from out of state or for Ohioans looking for a weekend getaway? I could see that bringing in a lot of traffic if done correctly.

Apparently we need an ohio pizza guide and best pizza in ohio section, because that topic comes up every month.

As far as the HS sports theme goes for developing the site, I'd look at that as a more secondary thing, as that's not a CONSISTENT traffic thing. If you look at JJ or Yappi's trends on sites like Alexa, you'll see traffic spike for them the most during the football playoffs, but then level off. You can kind of see that here for overall traffic, in that on Alexa, our three-month traffic is this huge improvement, but the one-month traffic is on the decline (as in the past two weeks, the majority of football teams have seen their season end). What we need is that sort of catch that would reel in the "part-timer" traffic that popped up for the HS playoffs and is now leaving (or a catch that simply attracts more of a SB-style crowd...ie: assholes who like to find new and exciting ways to tell people to suck their dick).
