I have a Honda Civic and I change the oil every 10,000 miles per the maintenance schedule. I do use synthetic oil and it currently has 116,000 miles and is running great. I just bought a 2005 Sebring and the maintenance schedule says to change the oil at least every 6000 miles. Can I go 10,000 miles with synthetic or should I stick to their recommendation?

The firestone thread made me wonder how often other people change their oil.

If I don't change the oil every 3,000 miles, my warranty is void in our Windstar. My expedition, about every 5,000. The Grand Am? Whenver the oil looks dirty.

Every 3,000 - 5,000 miles.... try closer to 3, sometimes it just doesn't work out. Work 7 days a week and is hard to make appointments.

Never. Oil change is very overated. Just make sure it doesn't get low. 124,000 miles and going strong.

Lol, you might want to change the filter every now and then just to be safe.

I'm guessing his car leaks oil so bad he it doesn't stick around long enough to get dirty.

06' Dodge Charger R/T 56,000 miles. maintence schedule says ever 3,000. by the time i get around its about 4,000.

and i pay someone to change my oil! i changed it myself when i lived at home and could use my dad's jacks, but now live in a condo and dont feel like doing it myself in a cramped garage/driveway. plus, let someone else deal with stuck drain plugs and arms covered in oil because of how the filter is positioned.

Yeah, I'm not much of a mechanic but I am pretty sure it's a good idea to change your oil every so often.

Mine gets changed about every 10,000....but being a 2001 Civic it's recommended every 3,500

Had an 88 Accord up to about 7 years ago and it had 285,000 miles on it and I didn't have it changed but 3 times from 165,000-285,000....had to top it off every now and then....but that's it.

I have a 2001 Civic. I try to get it changed ever 4k but it usually goes to around 5 before I have time to take it in. Oh well, I'm not really worried about it hurting it.

Every 6000 miles on my van - I put most of the miles on via a 45 round-trip commute during the freeway. My wife's car is used almost exclusively for short trips - we change the oil on that one every 3000-4000 miles.

It seems to work - we've gotten every car we've owned up to at least 135,000 miles ( with the exception of a 1980 VW Diesel Rabbit I bought right out of college ).
