What OSU fans think Cincy is the best team in Ohio? I sure as hell don't. Their record may be better but on a neutral field I'd take OSU and I bet they would be favored.

I'm one Ohio State fan that thinks Cincinnati could beat OSU. I don't know who would be favored, but I have a feeling that Cincinnati would.

I never said, or implied that OSU played a much better schedule or that we are much better than them.

But OSU has something that Cincy hasn't seen this season, and that's a top defense.

Didn't say you said that at all. My question wasn't really directed at you per se. The question for me in any kind of UC-OSU matchup is, where on earth is Ohio State's points going to come from? Its clear that UC can score, and would score, so the onus would fall on Tress and all 4 pages of his playbook

The point that the person was making, IMO, was that Cincy's defense is weak.

Illinois (and I'm going by overall record) is the worst team in the Big Ten, and I think they are in the 60's in scoring offense, and they hung up 36 on there, even with all of the drops, and the wide open TD pass.

Ohio State still does have a very good rush attack, and while Pryor isn't the best passer, he can still make plays on his feet.

And the Cincy offense would struggle with an Ohio State-esque defense, or an Alabama, or Florida, or even TCU. Teams that create turnovers, and rush the passer effectively.

None of these teams even put pressure on Pike or Collaros. I mean how much time did Pike have to throw today?

I just don't think Cincy would hang 30, or even 20 on OSU, Va Tech, TCU, Florida, Bama, or even Texas' defense because those teams know how to put pressure on the QB and create turnovers.

I mean, even a weak WVU defense held them to what, like 24?

I think we've seen firsthand that Juice is capable of pulling a decent performance out of his ass firsthand when he came in to the Horseshoe his sophomore year and played flawlessly.

I won't argue that. He is a play maker. But he also did have a very solid running game helping him out each season.

OSU did not play UC, and the teams will not be playing in a bowl game. Therefore, we have no way of knowing what would actually happen if these 2 teams played this season. To be honest, I'd love to see a UC-OSU matchup in one of the BCS Bowls, but that is not going to happen.

If UC beats Pitt next week, they will likely play the loser of the SEC Championship Game in the Sugar Bowl. That will be either Florida or Alabama. Both of these teams have excellent defenses, and both have offenses which will be able to keep up scoring wise with UC. It is doubtful that UC has played a team this season with a defense as good as either UF or Bama, and both UF and Bama have played teams with offenses as potent as that of UC, and beaten those teams.

I'm not big on running up the score, but something tells me if UF or Bama played Illinois, they would have no problem scoring 40+ points, and likely would have held Illinois to less than 10 points, and may well have held them scoreless.

And, PITT still has plenty to play for against UC. A win by PITT will mean both teams finish 6-1 in the Big East, and PITT would win the tie-breaker with the win over UC and thus earn a trip to a BCS Bowl. The game is at PITT, and it is a mistake to believe this will be an easy win for UC just because PITT lost on Friday to WVU. That is a huge rivalry game, and in the PITT-WVU game unexpected things often seem to happen. In 2007, WVU was 10-1/5-1 while PITT was 4-7/2-4. The game was at WVU, and PITT ended up winning 13-9. WVU then went to the Fiesta Bowl and beat Oklahoma 48-28.

There are three parts to every game. Offesne, defense and special teams. I don't think anyone is debating which team has the best offense and which has the best defense. Is Cinci's offense better than OSU's defense? I don't know. But if they played 10 times, OSU isn't winning all 10 and vice versa.

And since when does OSU have this great running game? Sure they have picked it up lately, but what happens when Shugarts jumps offsides or someone holds? OSU's drives are stalled. And I don't think anyone would disagree that OSU can't play from behind. What if they get down early? They try airing it out like they did against Purdue?

You can only make projections based on the facts. Yes, all things are possible, but the likeliest of scenarios is based on the facts.

Fact: UC hasn't played a top 20 defense in the nation. And Rutgers is the "best" defense they've played against. But it's hard to say Rutgers has a great defense when they play teams like FIU, Howard, Army, Texas Southern, and Maryland.

Fact: OSU, Texas, Alabama, Florida all have top 10 defenses, if not better.

Fact: Cincy's defense is prone to giving up points against offenses that rank lower than 60th in the nation, I.E. Illinois, UConn, Fresno.

What this tells me is that you don't have to have a great, or even good offense to score against Cincinnati. What this also tells me is that while Cincy appears to be able to score, it's hard to tell if they can score against a defense that actually gets to the QB, and forces turnovers, like some of the rest of the top 10 teams.

In the Big East, they play nothing but teams that are better offensively. Even West Virginia's barely mediocre defense held them to around 24 points.

Yes, it's all possible. Cincy could beat all of those teams. But the facts don't support that argument, and with those facts, they'd likely be a 7-10 point underdog to all of those teams, and a 4-5 point underdog to OSU's putrid offense.
