And you could see in the line play that Illinois (the 9th best Big Ten team) had better overall talent than Cincinnati (the best Big East team). Illinois is just horribly (I can't even express how horribly) coached. If they have a halfway decent coordinator who could teach those kids some discipline on defense, and they beat Cincinnati by 2 TDs.

That is how UC plays games this year. Is UC the best team in the country this year? maybe, maybe not. Can they beat Florida, Bama, or Texas in a one game scenario of course they can.
When they play the big boys they most certainly need a defense. You aren't going to outscore teams who match up with you offensively, and completely overmatch you defensively.

They win because they have been able to overmatch other teams with their offense. Problem is, the other top teams out there, can match up with them.

A win is a win, but Illinois is a team that OSU beat 30-0. Their 3 wins have come against Michigan(5-7/1-7), Minnesota(6-6/3-5) and FCS Illinois State(6-5).

A 49-36 win over Illinois isn't exactly a WOW type of victory, and while Cincy has a very good offense, this game shows that they don't exactly have a very strong defense. Prior to this game, Illinois scored more than 17 points in only 2 of their games against FBS opponents Big Ten games, with those being the wins over UM(38-13) and Minnesota(35-32).

Here are the scores of Illinois games this season in their losses to FBS teams:
Missouri - L ... 37-9

UC actually won by a score of 38-36. They would have been held to a field goal if it weren't for that phantom late hit on the 3rd and goal stop, and the refs review of the Gilyard TD at the end in which his foot was clearly out of bounds.

Let me add that I think it is GREAT that UC is 11-0, and with a win next week against Pitt can finish 12-0 and play in a BCS Bowl, while still having an outside chance of playing for the BCS Championship.

I love seeing teams like UC, Boise, TCU and others have seasons like this, and shake things up a bit in the world of college football. It's just hard to picture UC having been able to be 12-0 if they played in the Big Ten, and the Big Ten isn't exactly the strongest conference in FBS. And, I'm not so sure that UC could have gone 10-2 playing the exact same schedules as OSU, Iowa or PSU.

Final score was 49-36. I don't do the whole "the score was actually" thing. Also, while not a thrashing, it was still a win, and at this point one more win an UC finishes 12-0, which will be a great season.

This game may actually be a god thing for UC, as I'm sure Brian Kelly will use this to show the team that it's to early for UC to be buying into all they hype about how great they are, especially if they desire to win their BCS Bowl and finish 13-0.

DaBrowns has done nothing but trash UC with all 14 of his posts. I'm not a Cincy fan but some of the crap he has been saying warrants responses. I like when people play the hypothetical game though, its always entertaining

I did not watch the game, and was very surprised to see that it was even close at all. Like I said, I think it's great UC is 11-0. And, it will be even better if the beat Pitt and finish 12-0.

But, I'd hate to see UC be 12-0, then go to a BCS Bowl and get totally destroyed because of a weak defense, and facing either Florida or Alabama which have strong defenses and will be able to slow down the UC offense.

You don't buy that the last Gilyard TD wasn't a TD? I'm guessing you didn't watch the game.

As for the Big Ten thing, I would tend to agree with you. The Big Ten is filled with solid defenses, unlike the Big East who is primarily offense with USF, WVU, Pitt, and Rutgers.

Also, the Big East played a lot weaker of schedules overall.

Rutgers played 2 FCS schools along with FIU 2-3 years removed from the FCS, and Army.

WVU played Liberty, ECU, Colorado, and Marshall.

USF played two FCS schools along with Western Kentucky 2-3 years removed from the FCS.

Syracuse stinks, but they played Minnesota, Maine, and Akron.

Louisville had Indiana State, Southern Miss, and Arkansas State.

Pitt opened up with Buffalo, Youngstown State, and NC State.

Cincy had a decent OOC schedule, but still played Fresno State (not a bad team, but far from good), Illinois (wasn't really expected to stink this bad this year, so I won't hold that against them), Southeast Mizzou State, and Miami (OH).

Overall, the Big East played a lot of crap teams.

What truth? In fact you aren't using facts or truth at all. You are doing the very opposite. You're one saying well if Cincinnati did this and Illinois did that, and if the ref called this then the score would be ___ to ____.

The Pitt lose tonight hurts UC for next week. That was supposed to be their big W of the year and now Pitt won't even be in the Top 10 anymore.

Actually, I said, if the refs didn't blow the clear non-TD, then that's 7 points less.

I'm also saying that if the refs didn't give UC a 1st and goal after a great 3rd and goal stop because of a late hit that didn't exist, they'd have been held to a field goal.

It's not rocket science Mr.

And it doesn't make since that I couldn't assume you weren't a UC fan based on your avatar. Your a Cincy fan... But not a Cincy fan, just because your not from Cincy? Great logic there, sport.

The point is, even though those calls went in Cincy's favor, they still happened. You can't play the hypothetical game. Its stupid. The game would probably change entirely if Gilyard's TD doesn't count. How do you know what Kelly would have done in response? In that final drive do you really think he would have had Collaros running out the clock if it was a close game?

You can't change a play's result and expect the rest of the game to turn out exactly the same. Sorry man.

I just don't like when the refs hand teams football games. Like the WVU games when there was no evidence to overturn the fumble that made it a TD.

Point is, the refs shouldn't have such a huge effect on the game.

Could Cincy have executed better? Definitely. Duvalt (Duvall?) could have caught that ball that was wide open and got 6 points. They could have had better play calling and less drops.

Overall, when Cincy plays an actual defense, they'll struggle because their offense is the only reason they are in these games. If they get stopped on offense, their play is over.

They aren't well rounded at all.

But it's not hard to go undefeated when you have the 65th ranked SOS.

What OSU fans think Cincy is the best team in Ohio? I sure as hell don't. Their record may be better but on a neutral field I'd take OSU and I bet they would be favored.

That Gilyard catch wasn't even close to a TD and Illinois got the shaft on that homer call, but even if they called it right I doubt Illinois keeps them out of the end zone on the next play, so it probably didn't matter much.

And as far as schedules, every conference schedules cupcakes. The Big East isn't alone there.

When I'm watching a Big East game with Cincinnati, it just looks more like a WAC game than a BCS conference game. They spread the field and the field looks huge and everyone is running wild. In the big boy conferences, the field isn't that big because the defenses are better and faster. Even in the Big Ten, where everyone thinks they run in cement, the Purdues and Northwesterns that exclusively run the spread do well enough to be competitive many years, but they aren't winning the conference with that.

Cincinnati's offense is very good, but if they face Florida or Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, it will be like last year against Virginia Tech. Those receivers won't be wide open, and the QB will have to hold the ball longer and the line will have to hold up or Pike won't survive the game.

Maybe, maybe not. If UC beats Pitt they should end up with 3 victories over BCS top 25 teams with Oregon State, Pitt, and WVU which would be the most or tied for the most in the country. If USF beats Miami it whould be 4. Where the Pitt loss whould hurt UC is with the pollsters who are prone to knee jerk reacations even this late in the season.

I wouldn't be upset if it was a tough call on the TD. But the fact that each replay clearly showed his foot on the back of the goal line, and then it was reviewed, and it was still upheld, is unbelievable.

I don't mind close calls, but when the idiots that they have announcing these games even question the calls, it's pretty bad. Even Cincy fans were admitting it wasn't a TD and it was given to them.

The refs shouldn't be deciding the outcomes of football games. That's the point.

I know what the score was. But I also know that 11 of those points were handed to Cincy by the refs. Cincy earned 38 points without the help of the refs.

Regardless, nobody can question the fact that their defense alone makes them an underdog against any of the other top 10 schools in the nation.

I understand that... But when teams schedule 2 FCS schools, and a team that's just a couple years removed from the FCS? I mean really? That's sad.

Even PSU's schedule was more difficult.

Your not serious are you? First off, Cincinnati's SOS is 47th. Second, Ohio State's is 60th, and they didn't go undefeated.
