A new Reuters/Ipsos poll in Ohio finds Gov. Ted Strickland (D) has pulled into a virtual dead heat with challenger John Kasich (R).

Kasich leads by just one point among likely voters, 47% to 46%, after holding a 9-point edge in August.

A new Fox News poll also shows Kasich slipping and has him leading by just two points, 45% to 43%.

Update: A new New York Times/CBS News poll shows Kasich with a 43% to 42%

Things are starting to look a litter brighter for Teddy. Maybe his attacks are starting to work?

As usual Webbie you are bass ackwards. Your comment should read, "If I were Dem incumbent Strickland, I'd be shaking in my shoes that I have such a precarious and razor thin lead this close to election day."

Strickland isn't too popular (and hasn't been for awhile now) in the Ohio valley area. If he wants the vote for this part of Ohio, he better start stumping instead of automated telephone poll calls everyday.
Same with Kasich.

That's really scary to think that Strickland is even that close to being reelected. What do you have to do (or not do) for voters to get upset and throw you out? I'm, beginning to think all the good people have left and the only ones left here are the ones interested in self mutillation.

One of Ohio's biggest fallacies is that there is still enough pocket towns/cities that are so entrenched in the union mentality that they will never see the light of day until those people die off. My example(s) of the Ohio Valley area happens all over the state. The union jobs have died off or have vastly dwindled, but the people are still here with their outdated concepts. They still see unions as their knight in shining armor. And Strickland has the unions in his back pocket.
Kasich's problem is that, right or wrong, he has the "corporate" label tagged on him. And it's the same ^^^ people that will never listen to his agenda that is making this such a tight race.

It doesn't matter that Strickland has done jack-squat. We've even seen people post on here that they vote according to who has a "d" or an "r" by the name.

Merit has nothing to do with it, anymore.

I will not be voting for Strickland again....Kasich is by far the better candidate and Strickland has absoutely sucked.

I've yet to see a campaign ad for Strickland that highlights his accomplishments while in office the last 4 years.

What I have seen in about 99% of ads for Democrat candidates is "The other guy worked on Wall Street and made millions" or "So and so cheated on his taxes 30 years ago" or "The other guy sent US/Ohio jobs overseas (all by himself!)". Not one word about an incumbent Democrat's achievements or policy highlights of the last 4 (or 2) years.

When you are in a gunfight and you have no bullets in your gun, you have to find a way to get your opponent to shoot himself before he shoots you. It's Strickland's only hope and it appears more people are believing his 4 years in office don't mean anything when compared to a Wall Street "tycoon". Class warfare has worked for the Dems/Leftists for so long they'll never give it up. Kasich will respond soon and the numbers will go the other way. I think Fish82 has Kasish winning by 6 points in the end. I'll go with 8 to 10, but the end result is still the same.

Can't we get a third candidate who actually could do something or are we stuck with these two asswipes?

I am not looking forward whatsoever to choosing between a guy who has nothing to run on and has had to rely solely on attack ads, and a guy who has been uselessly vague because his platform is nothing more than items that make people feel good and have no practical way of being applied.

It's been this way for Dems for decades. They might as well put together one canned ad for every one of their candidates across the country:

Republicans are for the rich. They hate black people. They want to reinstitute slavery. They have latinos. They want to deport you all. They hate gays. They hate seniors and want to take away youir medicare. Yur democratic candidate, likes puppies, sunshine, is smart (because they always say the R is dumb) and promises to be tough on crime.

Surely you must believe it's the very similar for the R's right? "Don't vote for those tax and spend liberals who are anti-business, anti-investment, pro-marx, soft on crime, pro-baby killing, Union sellout, douches...etc."

To me, most, if not all campaign ads are terrible...I mean, who are these people they hire to do that over the top voice acting, etc.?

The only ads for Kasich I've seen have been "Strickland didn't xxx". Not "Kasich will xxx". Both sides merely use attack ads. If you think they are the unique to one side then you probably are in favor of the other side and as such have blinders on.

"Strickland didn't do xxxx" is a completely valid point- dude has a 4-year record to be examined, evaluated, and criticized. I've seen one or two ads for Kasich, and they came across to me as "We need to do xxxx"- I don't remember exact words, but they did not come across as attack-y.

I stand by my statement that 99% of Dem ads are purely attacks. I'm way more politically savvy now than I was 2 or 4 years ago, and I know both sides are guilty to some extent, but not a single Dem ad I've seen this year says "Look at my record the last 2 or four years".
