Its hard to know exactly what was said in conversations between the AD's. I have a hard time believing that Boise even turned down a home and home series with Nebraska. A team that was willing to schedule home and home with Oregon and Oregon State (both of whom have been better than Nebraska the past few years) is now ducking Nebraska? Is that what this AAD wants us to believe? Thats the conclusion I'm drawing from it.
I don't think they are "ducking" anyone, its just that they will only play teams for the right price. Which kind of is different than their ad's view of "anyone....anywhere" he just keeps convieniently leaving off the "for the right price" part

I really think Boise needs to beat Ohio State. Look at Florida and LSU as examples, there were NOTHING before they beat Ohio State, and now they are perennially at least decent.

The flip side is, look at Miami, after losing the NC game to the Buckeyes, they've waited 8 years to lose again.

trep - Come on now. You are talking about Boise being a big time program and doing everything it can to prove itself. Big time programs don't get paid a million dollars to play other big time programs. Then you just call the Nebraska AD a liar? Please dude.

Boise relishes this role of being the little guy pretending to be a big guy. They say they want the big games, but they'll only do it if they are compensated like a little guy. So which is it? Bogus - all the way around.

Also, Boise's stadium only seats ~34,000 people and the tickets are $49 each. So they bring in a little over $1.5 million in tickets, but that doesn't count operating costs and they would only get one home game out of two years. I can see how it would make them more money to play away games and they might be trying to cash in on their newfound popularity. (I don't blame them for that. It's all a big money grab anyway.)

That is true. Even on a straight up home and home, Nebraska would make much more money playing Boise in Nebraska than Boise would playing Nebraska in Boise. I guess that the final statement about Boise should be that they "are willing to play anyone, anywhere, at anytime (as long as the money is right)". And thats not really much different than the rest of college football. And I'm not sure how the money distribution system works for non-conference games in college football. I'd imagine that teams make more money for participating in nationally televised big time games, but I'm not sure either.

I just said that Boise is willing to play anyone anytime anywhere (as long as the money is right), meaning I guess they aren't doing "everything they can do" to prove themselves. I didn't deny that. I also didn't call the AD a liar. I just said I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to the story than that. Like I said, Boise played a home and home with Oregon the past two years and has played home and homes with Oregon State. Maybe Oregon and Oregon State bent over and took it from Boise and paid them to come in to Autzen/Corvallis without Boise having to pay Oregon for the return trip. Or maybe Boise is just afraid of Nebraska and not of Oregon/Oregon State? I don't know, I didn't listen in to the conversations and neither did you.

Also, I wouldn't say Boise is wanting to be compensated like a little guy. Heck, Colorado is making more money coming to OSU for a game than what Boise wanted for coming to Lincoln.

Maybe Boise should have contacted OSU before Colorado? ;)

The issue is you expect Boise State to play for free just to prove themselves, basically. Boise State, like any other university, makes the bulk of their athletic budget from football.

As for University of Idaho making over $750k for trips to Texas A&M, LSU, and Nebraska, ... Yeah, I'd agree that Boise State is definitely worth more. Now, if they did a true home-and-home, that'd be different. Hell, Texas just did a home-and-home with Wyoming. There's no money loss in a home-and-home. You make your money on tickets, and pay to travel to the other team the other year.

The problem is Boise State (and ESPN reported it last year) that they can't find teams willing to play them (it's the Fresno State syndrome, part 2). But they're not about to be bent over for the privilege.

Because a loss is so damning in the current college football setup, no team is willing to schedule a 'tough game' that doesn't result in a boatload of cash being delivered to the school (a la, OSU-USC, OSU-Texas, Penn State-Alabama, etc). Most big schools feel their conference schedule is quite capable of giving them trouble that they generally will schedule 3 or 4 cupcakes and usually one somewhat decent non-regional game (unless they have a consistent non-conference rival or longstanding contract, a la Georgia/GT, etc).

If you had a 12 team playoff (conference champions, plus one at-large/independent), then everyone would know what mattered and we'd see more of these big money big-name games because teams wouldn't be fearful of a OOC loss.

The biggest issue is if Team A is ranked #2 and Team B is ranked #3, if team A in hypothetical season 1 plays Team B and wins,... Team B moves down the polls. Yet, prior to the game, you had already ranked the teams sufficiently to state that in the event the two played, Team A would be the better team, hence the ranking. In hypothetical season 2, Team A doesn't play Team B. They both win their replacement game. They both stay #2 and #3.

See where this is going?

According to the article Nebraska offered them a home and home.

It was OBVIOUS to me in the Boise game that VT was TERRIBLE. It was proven today. Boise State IS NOT Top 10 QUALITY team. They play a weak schedule. At best they are 4th place in the Big Ten

Genuinely interested to hear from some of those who said that win for Boise proves they deserve a shot at the national title. Still ready to call it a season after one win?

Maybe James Madison and Boise State can play each other in the BCS National Championship game. I mean, they both beat Virginia Tech... what else do you have to prove over beating an overrated ACC team??

Va Tech's loss definitely hurt Boise State, but you almost wonder if Va Tech is experiencing the same thing that Michigan experienced when they lost to App State. (Major hangover). I tend to think even a bad Va Tech team should beat Jimmy Madison every time

Yeah I remember that. Michigan lost to App State and then got blasted by Oregon before going on a 8 game winning streak and almost winning the Big 10. I still wouldn't be surprised if Va Tech competes for the ACC title and ends up in a BCS game.

Oh Dudette, I watched every minute of Ohio State game, no channel surfing. The score surprised me, but I knew the game would be close, I have a couple of connections with James Madison.

When Boise played VT I was at my summer place on the beach of Lake Michigan, one of the most beautiful places in the world. l do not allow a computer there. I arrived home 2 days ago. I can't help it if you aren't knowledgeable enough to recognize VT's weaknesses. The first clue, even before the first play, was to look at their 2 deep and see how inexperienced they are. During the game the commentators mentioned this several times. Weren't you paying attention?

hahaha ok why aren't you coaching somewhere? Clearly your level of football knowledge is superior to everyone elses that is involved in college football. The coaches only dropped Va Tech 3 spots after they lost to Boise State. But apparently they don't know anything about VT/can't recognize any weaknesses on film lol. Just face it, your on here after the fact acting like you knew something all along.

I still like Boise in the top 5.

Why? Because they haven't lost to anyone yet to show otherwise.

trep do you think big gain is the alter ego of "The Most Interesting Man in the World"? He has a sweet cabin and has superior football knowledge that allows him to talk down to others. Naturally this talk didn't occur until after the game was over.
