99% of the time I will take a cop's word over the criminal/"victim" when I don't know the entire situation. I'm not sure she needed to be slammed on the ground that hard, but if people would listen to officers there generally wouldn't be a problem. People talk back and don't cooperate, then throw a fit when they get their ass kicked.

While I see why the cop did what she did, I still think it could have been handled a little differently.

I'm fine with it. I'm no cop apologist, but people on this site seem to hate cops way more than necessary.

For those of you who missed it, the lady has dementia. I know the officer didn't know that, but its not like the woman was lunging, has super human strength, or was even speaking coherently.

I normally side with the cops, but I can't really blame the people around the scene in the video. Most of these people already have a poor view of the police, and what could have been a very simple grab of the wrist and take the knife and a good PR scene is now just a reinforcement of sometimes cops use way too much force.

From the first thread... this is how I look at it.

If a person has ever been in any physical confrontation I'm sure they will tell you that you should NEVER underestimate the person you are up against... that is how you get hurt.

If the officer casually went up to the lady and she lashed out at the officer, it'd be her fault for putting herself in a bad position. The officer used a reasonable amount of force to disarm the person. Excessive force would have been using a taser or gun on the old lady. A quick physical disarming of the lady is probably as little force as she could have used and kept herself reasonably safe.

She had to have stitches and according to her daughter (I realize this may be a biased source), her hand was broken. A taser would have been safer, although not appropriate.

i think most of the wounds she had were self inflicted. how would a taser have been safer? not only would she still have fell to the ground hard, she would have electricity running through her.
