Roy MacAvoy, Tin Cup

Costner plays some of the best characters
I think Costner's best roles were Crash Davis in Bull Durham (not that there was a lot of difference between Crash's character, Roy MacAvoy or even Ray Kinsella in Field of Dreams for that matter) and in a non-sports role Butch Haynes in A Perfect World.

Off the top of my head I would say Josey Wales.

Bounty hunter #1: You're wanted, Wales.
Josey Wales: Reckon I'm right popular. You a bounty hunter?
Bounty hunter #1: A man's got to do something for a living these days.
Josey Wales: Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy.

Good lord....Has no one mentioned James Bond yet (even I forgot). Sean Connery's was the best, although I always liked the wit and humor Roger Moore brought to the role.

All the ladies, the gadgets, the cars - the cars! - and a nearly unlimited budget....James Bond = GOAT
