This will probably be the last inning for Wood, if he can get thru it, as he has 81 pitches going in and is due up 2nd in the 7th.

I completely disagree with the play on Pence at home.....it doesn't matter one bit who catches the ball.....YOU HAVE to be set to throw the ball home especially with a fast runner. Bruce had an easier throw......but Phillips had less travel to get there and had plenty of time to get set up....but he didn't....why not...because he's a freaking hot dog that claims to be a team player. Brandon Phillips was there to easily catch that ball but got toasted by Pence...Phillips didn't completely assume Pence was running and didn't use his gold glove skills to get his feet set...it cost the Reds a run and that cannot be argued.

I agree completely. As I watched the ball coming down and didn't know how far Bruce was away, and knowing Pence was on 3rd, I was thinking Brandon better get back further behind the ball and get his feet and body set to make a quick good throw home!

it's the game right now....as is

He's too damn talented to allow that to happen.

Shut up Thom and Chris.....he's freaking 25 feet past the dirt...it's Phillips' damn ball and it's exactly the kind of play Phillips is so proud of when he's running the bases catching people off guard.

What you guys are saying is not how you are taught to play. BP has 1 priority there, and it's to keep his eye on the ball and make the out. He was still drifting back as he caught it. To do what you are saying he would have had to turn sideways, run into right field, then come in. In the 30+ coaches I had from middle school through college not one would tell you to do that. Bruce can take 3 strides as fast as BP can back up 1 stride. Marty, Cowboy, Chris, Thom are all saying it was Jay's fault. Any ball that you can catch in front of you as an outfielder you call off. It's not like BP was standing there under the ball on his back foot for a couple seconds.

Exactly. You are taught as an outfielder that any ball you can get to, ESPECIALLY if you are coming in, is your ball. That was on Jay to call off BP and he didn't.

When Umberto popped up in the 6th, you could tells this the way Bruce rushed in. What do you bet that not a soul said anything to Phillips about playing that SF ball to throw out the runner at home unless you are called off by an outfielder!

Cairo with a key at bat to add insurance runs, and he blows two good pitches to get RBIs on with fouls, and then Ks!

I played OF all my life.....I completely agree Bruce has the way easier play....but don'y try to tell me that Brandon Phillips can't get back there quicker and make the play...no way...he Jim Edmonds' it and caught it landing with his momentum backwards.....then took anohter step backwards to catch his balance to throw...took the ball out of his glove...brought it back towards his glove....took his throwing artm back and fired away. I've watched this play about 10 times....Phillips was no more than 30 feet from the dirt......how far did Bruce have to run? Bruce was playing at least 260 deep and that ball was no more than 175 feet from home.

I'm well aware of how the ball is supposed to be played and each player's responsibility....I'm pissed that Brandon Phillips didn't assume Pence was running...that split second was the difference...this is the same guy that is a no doubt gold glover so far this season...we've seen him range.

Brandon Phillips with zero doubt in my mind had plenty of time to set up....and did not.

I'm sorry I'm being so bitchy about this....I've replayed it over and over and this is how I feel and believe.

You should most definitely send guys down to the minors who are hitting .346 over the past week with 2 home runs.

He is also hitting .328 in July. Haha. smh. Get that guy out of here. He needs to be selling peanuts in Louisville!
