Travis Wood versus Bud Norris

Big series for the Reds. A negative statement was made versus the Nats and the Reds must bounce back by winning this series.

Reds must win tonight against the 2-7 6.08 era Norris.....but I do worry that Wood gets hit around a little more than we are used to.

Reds 7
Astros 6

and the Reds signing Dusty to a new deal before the season is over would be a travesty......less than 3 months ago he was on the chopping block and then he moved Phillips out of the 4 hole, Stubbs out of the leadoff. He was stupid for 2+ years and it took a major warning for him to change anything. Hell, the Reds might finish 12 games back or win the central.......no one knows but Dusty has done nothing to merit any more years unless this team makes the playoffs.

sweeps are difficult.....as you know Sure the Reds can but baseball always surprises you like when Joe Schmo beats Roy Halladay and when the Royals sweep the Reds.

Reds need to keep winning series versus Pirates, Brewers, Cubs and Astros and they'll be right there when it's all said and done.

Will be in attendance tonight and tomorrow...sadly I don't believe in Sunday baseball since I moved south. Astros are playing better the last few months so this won't be a cakewalk. I would love the sweep but I will be happy if the Reds take 2 of 3.

Red's fans...if you ever have a chance to see a game at Minute Maid Park...do it. I honestly believe it to be one of the top 5 ballparks in the country.

I'd be very happy taking 2 of 3 this series with Oswalt and the lefty Rodriguez going this weekend.

Hopefully. Today's match-up was favorable for the Cubs. Unfortunately, the Cards may realize they can't keep pitching Jeff Suppan and hope to win those games, so they may trade for someone or DFA him. Absolutely awful anymore...

That lineup, while not bad at all, really has the potential for one of those Greg Maddux-like 78 pitch complete games

Fortunately, from his stats, it doesn't look like "Proud to be Your" Bud Norris (oh shit, I entered the Berman Zone...kill me) isn't the second coming of Maddux.

Although Bruce is no 5 hole hitter, I'm glad Dusty splits up him and Stubbs with Cairo. Jay and Drew swing early so often because they are afraid to K, so it's nice to have a vet in between that usually takes a few pitches.

Down in Louisville Dickerson, Matthews, and Balentien are all raking, and Burton, Chapman, and Springer are lights out in the pen. I'd expect some changes soon.

I agree that just concentrating on winning series is the way to do it! If the Reds win four 3 game series by 2-1 though, a four game sweep loss like to the Phillies completely un-does the four good series, making the total of the five series a mediocre 8-8. More important that sweeeping a series, I think, would be not not be swept. Seems like if you sweep a series you get too confident and then get away from fundamentals and doing things like you did to keep just winning series. Like trying to be heroes and win on a big blast, swing too much early in the count, sstop going the other way with outside pitches, trying to get a big hit with a runner on 3rd with less than two out, and instead don't even get the RBI., etc.

How often do you see the batter, as in BP's case, ask the home plate umpire to appeal to the 1B umpire to rule if he swung or not?

Travis Wood does it right, if you are going to give up a run, make them get three hits to do it!

This team sure is frustrating to watch when they can't hit the long ball. Does that fan get tossed for grabbing that ball off the dirt that was fair?

Ump had pity on the 3-0 pitch to Bruce with a called strike to help the pitcher. Bruce gets the run in with a SF on the next pitch, but could have still had the bases loaded with a proper call!
