We didn't KNOW it was coming, the election of Lincoln pushed the South over the edge. If Lincoln hadn't been elected, there probably wouldn't have been a Civil War in 1861. That's not to say that the Civil War would have never happened since Washington was headed towards abolition anyways, but the political stance of Lincoln set secession in motion.

It is historic, but its importance will go down over time. In 1960 many people were shocked that an Irish Catholic could be elected president. 50 years later, JFK being the first Catholic president is just a footnote to his presidency.

yes I am racist because I don't think it's that big of a deal historically compared to everything else that has happened that a black man was elected. Maybe if you got your lips off mj and obama you would take a more realistic approach and not an emotional approach to how you argue your points.


how is obama doing in the polls gibby? how is obama doing to help this economy that THE DEVIL!!! bush so terribly put us in? Obama is doing what most every black man would do if elected to the presidency and that is be more concerned about his ncaa march madness picks and the nba than leading a country...and you can take that to the bank
