Public Venue?Crimson and Gray Hair;487189 wrote:I like your posts and I mean no disrespect to you, but do you feel this gives him the right to chew your ass in a more-or-less public venue like a booster club meeting?
Our booster meeting attendance figures are but a mere fraction compared to the 60's and 70's. Once, my brother and I split a 50/50 drawing of $142.00; $72.00 apiece, from tickets sold at one meeting. The booster meetings were held in the cafeteria with some of the overflow crowd standing in the hall. The coming game was discussed by the Head Coach and coaches of the defense and offense. We were told what to look for and who would be the impact players of the opposition. Those meetings were both enlightening and enjoyable.
Today, meetings consist of a few dozen people; several older men sitting in the front row eating all the doughnuts and sliding off to slumber on a sugar high with the booster officers plus a few others asking some of the questions.
One gets the impression that the meetings are a nuisance to Reno and that may be so. That being said, a head coach must be in charge at all times and this includes those meetings. Down through past years I've heard some of the most inane questions asked by some of those boosters. One in particular was from 2 brothers who asked Reno if our team would beat the betting spread downtown.
Reno threw them out by asking them to leave; he felt that strongly about betting on High School Sports and I agree with that.
Today, it is crucial that any weakness and or injuries be kept in house. I always said there are only 2 ways rumors can travel faster than computers: African Drums and Women's Beauty Shops.
When Reno makes a mistake, he admits it fully; conversly, he should be allowed to bask in the glory with his staff.
There have been many poor coaches and staffs in our system down through the years, but Reno and this staff are not one of them. Enjoy this era while if lasts; this too shall pass.
Cheers.
