^^1998 was a no-doubter. Don't know about 1997 though. Maybe I'll ask the Facebook contingent.

not sure about Reusser. Those teams were pass heavy. Maybe once, but probably not back to back. Denson split carries with Leeder and Bolyard (QB)...maybe though.

Scrimmage went similar to last one at Massillon. Green, Hudson, Timken and us. Timken was not even worth playing against.....just threw the bomb 90% of the time, it was hard to get good looks against them. Travis had a slow start again but ended the day on a much better note. Lichti again made some nice progress. He had some nice throws and as his confidence level grows I think he will get a lot of snaps and push Travis for the job. It is really hard to tell in a 7-7 on many of these things. Defensively we had a ton more energy....broke the huddle sharply every time, and again you did not want to be a TE or back coming across the middle....pads or not out LBs will put you on the turf. Go coach Haley! Max played, he is a little tender on the knee at times but looks like he will be fine. His versatility was evident on Defense as he can drop into coverage and do a great job....nice to have a guy on the edge who can do that if we need it. Turner was not there as he was at church camp for a few days this week. We dropped too many passes both on offense and defense, gotta stop that. All in all I would say we improved and are heading in the right direction. we had the best looking athletes on the field, you can tell they have been working hard. Friday at Akron U...I think that is an early afternoon start, maybe even late morning? I will find out.

Robinson ........ Demarkus in 1999 ... 1213 yds. in 2000 .... 1250 yds. Dru had 2096 in 1998 but I think he shared runs with Art Jones in 1997.

^^correct...I looked it up last night. 1999 and 2000 he was for ~1200 each season.

He was the feature back in 1999 and then when Zwick left for Massillon, DeMarkus was the entire offense in 2000.

So DeMarkus and Mark Griggs for sure. The list of single season rushing leaders in last year's program doesn't list anyone else twice.

Hear you have a freshman Zook that will be pressing for playing time??? True?? That's one less weapon for your freshman squad, thank goodness. :)

Bob Houmard 1963 .. 1179 yds , 1964 ...1250 yds. Went on and played pro in the Canadian Football League. Are there any other Orrville alums that played pro football, not just in camp, but actually played in games?

Bradley was drafted by the Colts...thought the Chiefs were involved too somehow.

Dave Vodika was invited to the Cowboys camp.....and I think Vaughn played actual games.

Bradley and Vaughn are still the only 2 Red Riders to be actually drafted.

riders1,
where'd you get the numbers on Houmard? I don't discount them at all....just curious.

11 AM start at Akron U today...ends around 3pm. Bunch of teams usually there I have not heard the names. Combine testing Monday (very similar to the NFL) a great way to assess the kids and the training program. They did this in May as well. Some of the stages, 40 Yd dash, vertical jump, broad jump, cone test, 225 lb bench as many as you can do, dead lift...I think. Takes some time for the staff, but no better way to evaluate your program.
The team has the rest of that week off then at it for 2Xdays the following Monday. Here we go!

I wish more schools did things like this. Northwest has a competition every year that is pretty fun, I've read.

This is a very good tool to present to College coaches. They all have numbers in mind that want to see kids be able perform at for any given position. It is a quick tool a coach can look at and say " hey here is a LB, good size , 40 yard where we want to see it, vert jump where we want to see it, 225 reps good, etc...lets take a look at his film and then take a look at him."

Really? I have 2009's and don't recall seeing any numbers from back in the 60's.

Any chance of scanning that and emailing it to me?

I also found it in 2009 program. page 23, top 10 season rushing yards, Houmard is tied at # 4w/1250 yds and at # 8 on the list with 1179 yards. you might be needing glasses as you get older :) Also Larry johnson #8 in 1968 w/1074 yards. Interesting that the next item is the longest run with Dru Robinson in 1998 and Bob Houmard in 1964 at 98 yards. I think Dru's was at Canton right before half of a playoff game.

IMO Houmard was the most dominant player I've seen from Orrville. The Best? Hard to say. Hoobler had some monster games last year, even with people trying to avoid him.
