Ashland has always played dirty. My senior year we were about to score before half, and I took off running when I was tackled three guys were punching at my kidneys and one punched my private areas. I went in at half peeing blood, and they made me sit the rest of the game.. I always hated Ashland more than Wooster, as did a lot of the guys.

A lot of personnel fouls on the Arrows. Not good. Players need to conduct themselves better. Reminds me of the Genoa players. What comes around goes around.

I really feel if we used split backs it would be much harder to read the intention of the offense. It would also require Trey to block sometimes. Would Davault actually require Trey to block for somebody?

Rice had some good plays. Need to get him the ball more.

yes he did, and he finally made a play on defense in the passing game. He was the achilles heel of last years defense, everyone knew to throw at him, and he got burnt a few times. I liked what I saw from him tonight.

Picked up my reserve seats for the Wooster/Orrville game last night. 50 yard line with the season ticket holders....which means I should be getting escorted out by the police in the 2nd quarter for being too loud.

I have a comment and would like to hear feed on this. A friend of mine who works at Smith Dairy told me that on Mon. evenings Smithville has an open to the public film night at 7:00. Parents and members of the community are invited to watch game film with the coach and the coach fields questions. The coach hears complaints and ideas. He also has the opportunity to defend coaching decisions and show on film where players made mistakes that caused called plays to fail. I think that Orrville parents and fans are entitled to an evening like this. As a parent Davault has said he has an open door for concerns to whoever whenever. That sounds ok, but is not practical in reality for several reasons. #1 he is very busy and trying to track him down is difficult and most likely you will have to interupt him from what he is doing and that is an uncomfortable situation for a majority of people. 2nd unlike 5 knots I do not have and many others with questions do not have a good enough public relationship with Davault to simply approach him out of the blue with player or game questions. I also feel that an evening like this allows the coach to evaluate film on Sat. with players in a format different to the format with parents or fans. It would be extremely uncomfortable for the coaches or the fans to go to Sat. films and ask the coach questions with all the players there. Never mind the fact that the players do not want to be at the school on Sat morning any longer then necessary. I really applaud the Smithville coach for his willingness to have an evening like this. I also think this could help bridge the apparent gap between the coach and his football community. It is easy to be critical of the coach I have certainly been that, but more frustrating then anything is the apparently never available,comfortable, and non hostile opportunity for coaches or fans/parents to discuss concerns about the Orrville football team. I believe that community members make up the team rooster therefore it is the communities team and the coaches have the exclusive priveledge of leading and coaching. The Rider team is not the head coaches personnel football program exempt from community input. I am not asking for the coach to put into practice advice from all of the armchair qbs that will show up to a night like this. I am just asking for an opportunity for us to feel like maybe coaches care about what the parent/fan base feels and thinks.

But I totally agree with you, outside or 5knots, BRF, and I think most would feel uncomfortabe just approaching him and telling him what he needs to do differently in games. I for one though am going to talk to him this offseason and show him so different plays that have a very high success rate, and that could get Turner the ball in space and also give some new formations etc... This coaching staff is very good and knows football, but last night we drove right down the field with Mason and Matt in the backfield, throwing 2 maybe 3 passes that entire drive, then scored a TD. Then we went back to what we usually do. Just didn't make much sense to me.

I still think we need to use packages like I have stated in an earlier post on this thread. The ability to show guys in different spots (Tre at Wr, Turner at RB, or Mason At RB, Tre at WR etc...) It is not hard to do, and can give the defense fits with who to cover and sets up mismatches. Playing college football showed me how watered down the offense is in high school.

Any time I talk to the Head Coach or assistants, I stick to comments like "good luck...go get'em...how is so and so doing with an injury, etc.". I would never tell them that I think this or that should be done. That is their job, not mine. Anything I've said on here about what I think, I would keep right here to chat with you all about.

Very true BRF, I was just stating that you and a few other chatters on here actually talk to the guy on a consistent basis. I keep in touch with him pretty regularly, but I am going to give him a copy of my Malone playback and highlight some plays that I know we could and should run in the future.

I think that a film time like this would actually be more of the coach helping the fan base to understand why the player and play calling is the way they have called it. I do not expect or believe that going to the coach and telling the coach what they should do different was my point or that the coach will do what somebody says he should do. My point is that the current format basically has no coach to community dialog. Just having a opportunity to hear and see the personal side of the man would help with people standing behind him as the leader/coach. It would also allow the coach to help people understand his defense as to why he does what he does and why none of what we discuss ever becomes a reality. I agree that we do not have the right to tell him how to do his job. For example My friend at Smithville said when he went to the film time he had the opportunity to see just how many mistakes the team was making in the course of one play. We watch from the stands and very few of us see where and to what extent mistakes are being made. In fact this person said the time at films actually gave him a greater respect for the coach and the actual difficulty of the task the coach is faced with week in and week out.

Being a coach is a great responsibility and very stressful, just look at Michigan States coach. Unreal the amount of pressure their is to winning and the stress that is can cause. I have all the respect in the world for coach davault, and I loved playing for him. Who knows, I may be down on those sidelines/up in the box next year for an internship for my degree (talked to Coach about it earlier this year)

What he has done in his short tenure as the head coach is pretty impressive, and we can't say what he is doing isn't working. To an average football fan, who really watches the line during a game? I bet 95% of you watch where the ball is. While other people including myself watch other things other than who has the ball. I find myself always asking my dad or fiance, who ran that, who caught that pass, or who made that tackle, because I am watching other things that help make that play possible.

One thing I did notice last night that was a positive was our QB. He showed great poise and leadership out there in this big game. His throws looked more assertive, like he knew that was where he was going with the ball and he fired it in there. Some throws were a little high leading to incompletions, but that will come I was more impressed with the way he read the defense. We hadn't really seen the 2 minute offense this year, and we drove right down the field on that last possesion and scored. I loved our no-huddle offense and it is very hard to stop, we just don't use it enough though. I remember when Simmons and I played we would start the game in the no-huddle, and set the tempo for the game.

Lichti really impressed me last night, and I hope you guys saw this too.

It's been said...frustrating...but we never led in the game....giving the ball right back to Ashland in the 3rd was big.

Kyle started 0-3 and made bad throws, but really improved and threw the ball well on the run.

If we can learn from this and improve........

Oh and PS....I hung out with MYSELF at the Ashland BW3's. Thought I'd see Old_rider or riders1....oh well.

There is an old NFL proverb that states " a coach that listens to the fans, will soon be sitting with them."

Contrary to public opinion, although I have known Coach Davault since childhood, I am nothing more than an ear sometimes for him to maybe confide a couple things he just wants to say. Maybe. My contact with any of the coaches and staff is 95% support. for example....How can we help you, what can we do for your staff, what can we do for their families who also sacrifice so much, what kind of food would you prefer we feed them on team night, are there any supplies you are lacking. It is very rarely about personnel. I think the film night is a bad idea. Coach D has said time and time again he will speak freely and openly with you about YOUR Child and YOUR child only....GREAT policy....and he will. He does not need another assistant offensive coordinator. We can figure all that stuff right here! haha. I would encourage any/all of you to attend practice or any team function like their Thursday night meal as an observer....no food for you. I am always there when possible as an observer (although I eat the Gluten free food my wife has prepared for Mason and us at that time also) as well. 6pm. You can hang out with me.
It is neat to see the kids interact and they pass out game awards from the previous week following victories. It is a fun 45'
