You know these last few episodes have really made me respect Josh Harris. Phill raised one hell of a kid in Josh.

I don't watch the show, really only because I already watch too much TV and don't have the room for it, and I know I'd like it. Anyways I was watching the one where Phil went down with his stroke. Man that hit me hard remembering my father being airlifted and hooked up to machines and given CPR. I couldn't watch it!

Is Jake the addict? I thought it was crazy he gets caught trying to take the pills then spills his guts about being an addict, Phil then has a stroke shortly after. That should wake someone up!!

Yes, Jake's the addict. If you didn't see it tonight (and based on your previous comments I guess you didn't) Josh and him got into it tonight because Jake was coping with the situation at hand by getting fucked up. Jake tried to guilt trip Josh into feeling like an asshole because he hadn't really shown any emotion... basically trying to "accuse" Josh of being the level-headed one.

I saw Captain Phil dying a LONG time ago. I thought it would be a heart attack or Cancer though. The man smokes 4 packs a day and was warned... He had no business being on that boat this past year and if her was worried about his heath as much as he was worried about the $$$ he would likely still be alive.

I see this situation a lot different than most and I hope that doesn't lead to a basing of epic proportions, but seriously... If dude took a minute to consider his health, he would most likely be alive.

Quick Fact: Does anyone know why women survive more heart attacks than men??? Because at the first sign of illness women seek help. Men choose to wait. This is what killed Captain Phil. He waited.

I don't think so. I would think most watching TV and most of the other crab fishermen would agree. Did you see Sig's reaction to hearing the news. He was pissed that Phil did not take better of himself.

It sounds like this is simply a soap opera for men.

I didn't realize the actresses on Days of Our Lives went to such extremes to put food on the table and take care of their families..thanks for sharing

Real life is around us everyday; life, death, successes, failures.

This show sounds like it appeals to the male demographic with a focus on everyday issues that are present everywhere...I guess real life is indeed a soap opera....it's just that this one is for men while those daytime ones are for woman.

???? Isn't that exactly what they are doing by acting?

The only difference is that they are telling a fictional story while these other guys, these fishermen, are telling the story of their lives by letting a film crew record it.

Not the same thing? Maybe not exactly but to suggest they are not similar is missing my point.

This T.V. show sounds like an entertainment piece designed with real life scenarios which are based around fishing and appeal more to males than females in general.

Here's the definition of a soap opera.

1. A drama, typically performed as a serial on daytime television or radio, characterized by stock characters and situations, sentimentality, and melodrama.
2. A series of experiences characterized by dramatic displays of emotion.

Doesn't seem like I'm that far off.

No I have not at all. :( It's why I said it "sounds" like a soap opera for men.

My opinion is entirely base on the folks who are discussing it. We disconnect our TV from June 1st through September 1st each year.

What do you see different about it than the definition of a soap opera I found and shared?

Nothing like giving an opinion on something you know nothing about.

Deadliest Catch is much more then just a soap opera

I know some about the show....albeit is very little. That's not the same as nothing.

I am entertained and enthralled by the thread and the magnitude people are attracted to it. Everything that has been shared is interesting and engaging. To me it has sounded like a soap opera geared towards men based on what has been shared.

Maybe I am not even close in that. Tell me where?

I don't think that we are going to find out Sig Hansen's evil twin brother has been a priest for that last 13 years and is actually Russel Newberry's father.

I don't think that's what determines it being or not being a soap opera.
