Steve Jobs responded to somebody's email about the antenna issue. His response? "Don't hold the phone that way."

Thanks Steve, we can all be glad you're not a doctor:

"Dr. Jobs, it burns when I pee."

"Don't pee."

Don't hole the phone that way?! Really, Steve?!? How do you suggest customers hold the phone?!

"Oh, Mr. Customer...you want to make a call? Don't hold the phone in your hand up to your ear, that's going to fuck shit up. Lay the phone on the table and rest your head gently on the earpiece."

What a douche! This is as bad as AT&T telling customers to remedy the lag in their network by just not using their phone as much!

I can't wait til this shitty iPhone fad ends!

People are so dumb....More than 5X what you could get a better phone for on a better network.

B-b-bu-bu Steve Jobs said it! That's like a step above Jesus! If we all do what he says the world will be a better place!

Whoever paid $1,125 for an iPhone needs to be shot. Twice.

It's pretty sad when you can't hold a phone correctly.

We tested two different iPhones here at work and were able to duplicate the issue on both of them.

Seems a bit hypocritical to rip on Steve for something that you had to do yourself while working for Sprint.

The issue is apparently only cause when your hand is touching the bottom left corner of the phone. So I assume when he says "don't hold it that way" he means it in exactly the way you meant it at Sprint. I.E. make sure your hand isn't touching the bottom left of the phone. I know when I hold my phone I am never touching that part of the phone so I doubt I'd experience this issue.

I just looked at how I hold my phone (not an iPhone, but not the point). When I'm actually talking to someone I don't have my hand there, but if I am holding it in my hand to play with whatever else on it, my hand does rest in that spot.

That picture someone posted above shows that many do hold their phone that way when not making calls... so it does seem like somewhat poor design to have that in that corner of the phone.

One of my co-workers has the new iphone. I just borrowed it to test the issue out and I couldn't duplicate it.

Huh? I said I tried holding it many different ways and it never lost it's signal. No issue whatsoever.

The easiest way to determine the issues is to run a speed test on the phone.

Loving the Iphone 4. I do not have the reception problems that people are discussing by the "death grip". Now the bars to seem to drop when I cover the black lines on the side with my hands, however the reception or service is not interrupted. It processes faster, the camera is very nice. The screen resolution is incredible. How are other Iphone 4 users liking theirs?

Absolutely loving mine. Just got a bumper case in the mail yesterday. I haven't had one complaint about it. It's awesome.

I have a case and screen protectors coming in the mail so much cheaper via Amazon.com, I believe a case will help solve the bars problem as well.

Apple to hold Iphone press conference Friday:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100715/wr_nm/us_consumerreports_iphone
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Apple Inc has called a surprise press conference for Friday to talk about the iPhone 4, as the company continues to deal with fallout from reported reception problems on its popular smartphone.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said late on Wednesday the company would hold the event at 10 a.m. on Friday at its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

He declined to provide further details, or to say whether the event will address the signal-strength problems that some people have reported having with the iPhone 4 when the device is held in a certain way.
I got the case I ordered today and since putting the case on, I can no longer get the bars to go down no matter how I hold it. This phone works as it should and I'm very happy!

Apple has been deleting posts on their forums that talk about how Consumer Reports will not recommend the iPhone until they fix the antenna issue. lol

Whether this is as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be, or its much ado about nothing.....Apple is certainly getting dragged through the mud on this one after quite a long run with barely any negative press at all. I imagine tomorrow's press conference will be addressing everyone's concerns. Seems as if the consensus from most of the tech blogs is that its only a problem if you're in a bad coverage area, and at best the phone's signal problems are inconsistent. Thats pretty unacceptable IMO for a product that is as popular as the iPhone. But Apple has been setting the bar very high.....they have no one to blame but themselves for all of this mess.

^Yeah, I think the whole issue has been overblown but Apple hasn't handled it well. I am curious what they will announce tomorrow in the press conference.
