Ichiro--no. Good, but not Griffey.
Bonds--not even close, hit more homers--was jacked on roids too. Terrible defensively.
Lofton--LOL

Only one that has an argument at all is Manny and I don't even agree with that one. Slightly better hitter, not nearly as good defensively.

This is the worst sports argument of all time. I've never argued with someone who came up with such weak arguments. You aren't even naming the top 5 guys that I was thinking would even challenge Griffey for the best player of this generation. Clearly you started watching baseball like 5 or 6 years ago or something.

Edit: MANNY FUCKING RAMIREZ.......ZERO MVPS!!!!! AND THEY GIVE OUT TWO EVERY YEAR LOLZ ROTFL

Barry Bonds wasn't a terrible fielder until he roided up.

Back in his 30/30 days he was a great fielder. Still not a better fielder than Griffey though.

Yeah, Bonds didn't need roids. He was a HOFer without them, however the fact that he took them changes things. I'm one who isn't against roids really, but it isn't fair unless everyone is taking them.

True story....Bonds was a great fielder, but he also played LF almost his whole career. CF is not only the hardest outfield position, its where you always stick your best outfielder. So for most of his career, Bonds wasn't even the best outfielder on his team.

I was going to post about Bonds being a LF'er in my previous post, but decided not to. I figured everybody knew the best overall outfielder was stuck in CF..

Barry Bonds was a great LF'er, and probably would have been a great CF'er in his early years, but he turned into the prototypical LF'er in his roided years as he became slower and much bigger/powerful.

If Bonds would have laid off the juice, he's a no brainer for the HOF and probably amasses an insane amount of SB's/gold gloves/hr's/mvp's.

I mean, he still had a great career, but the roids really tarnished it for me.

Which is another point for Griffey, there is no proof or no snitch saying Griffey took them. He gains + points from me for that fact alone.

Per Tim Kurkjian on ESPN today...

"[Griffey] is by any definition one of the greatest players of all time. He is...for me at least...one of the top five centerfielders of all time, behind only Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio. That is quite a list. He made the all-century team before he turned 30 years old. He was voted the best player in the 1990's. Willie Mays is the only one in the 500 homerun club with more Gold Gloves than Griffey, who has 10 of them."

Pretty shitty that Griffey's retirement gets "one upped" by a blown call in a potential perfect game. The talk of today SHOULD be about Junior.

Sage must still be trying to find someone.....ANYONE better than Ken Griffey Jr. in the past 30 years.

Griffey Jr. is, without a doubt, one of the best (GOAT) baseball players to ever grace the field. Kenny Lofton???? LMMFAO.

Some people on here will argue that water isn't wet just so they can argue or go against the grain. If they're actually buying what they're trying to sell....how fucking sad.

Agree with BR about Griffey being overshadowed by a bad call. Damn shame.

The Dodgers have 3 players already better than Griffey by an statistical measure.

Griffey's arm would have fallen off had he attempted to get in a banger like this.

Manny Ramirez, just a straight fucking boss hogg. He has actually, you know, performed in the post-season and has lead his teams to titles. Something that, you know, Ken Griffey never did.

Andre Ethier. Griffey would end up on the 60 day DL if he pounded half the snatch that Ethier does.

I think Sage is getting a little too carried away, but I think he brings up an interesting debate. People claim Griffey is one of the greatest, and I just don't see him as that. Greatness isn't measured on potential and "what if's".

Griffey is most certainly a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. He hit 630 freaking HRs. Chumps do not hit that many HRs. Not only the HRs but he was probably the best center fielder in the game during his prime. I would argue that he hung on too long but that's about it.

I love Ethier but come get me when he hits 630 HRs

Griffey for offense, defense and longevity is a first ballot hall of famer

Also...please list me the weight lifting routine for Willie Mays and Hank Aaron....thanks in advance!

Willie Mays also didn't live in an era when the benefits of weight lifting (SUCH AS FUCKING INJURY PREVENTION) were known.

Then how did Willie play so many games?...What about Hank he played even more.

And Hank has just 1 MVP??? I mean what is up with that?

Kenny Lofton is fast with about 2400 career hits and what 500 fewer hr? Fewer GG.

Andre Ethier....awesome.....lol he's been all-star worthy for about a season of his career.

Manny Ramirez.......quit on any teams much? offensively close.....defense is opposite end of the spectrum....even so on baserunning

How long before you mention Jason Heyward or Albert Belle?

No need to be rippin on Joey Belle. He may have been a dick but at one time Belle was the MOST feared hitter in MLB. He was GOAT-like. Too bad he fucked up his hip chasing down those damn Trick or Treaters.

That's the truth. I think Griffey should have retired a year or two ago, as he's been a shell of a shell of a shell of himself in recent times, but it's sad that when he finally did call it a career, he was overshadowed by a blind ump.

Kinda like the day Farrah Fawcett died. I think she got one upped a few hours later by some dude who died who was famous for wearing a sequined glove.

Griffey's career leaves him as one of the greatest to ever play the game.....injuries prevented him from being THE greatest to ever play the game.
