I remember when he came to Cincinnati and we were supposed to be back. Well we didn't exactly accomplish that. We kept him a little longer than we should have.

That's what I think about with him. Could you imagine what he would have done?

We might be saying goodbye to the greatest player ever, or at the least, the HR king.

Ken Griffey Jr. is 40 years old and retiring, makes me feel old because I remember him as a young 20 something phenom as a young kid and now he is finished. Where does the time go?

I always heard that Lou Piniella told him that he needed to take better care of himself and become more serious in the weightroom. The story goes that Griffey didn't heed his advice and when he got older he continued with minimal preparation and that was a big reason he kept getting hurt.

That makes sense, but the fact that he played on that rough Kingdome surface all those years didn't help either

Goodbye to the most overrated professional athlete of my lifetime. (Close second? Andy Roddick).

Ouch. Roddick does have a major in the Fed era.

As we are talking on twitter, he isn't overrated. He WAS top 3(if not number one) of the 90s. You can't argue with 382 HRs, 1,091 RBIs, 1,002 runs, 151 SBs, 10 consecutive gold gloves in the 90s.

Edit:
and no steroids.

Griffey was tight. Not saying he wasn't. But he isn't anywhere close to being the GOAT that he is portrayed to be. He was injured all the time because he didn't lift.

The injury card is like me saying, "Well, if I had LeBron's body, I'd be in the NBA." Well, maybe. Maybe not. But, one thing is certain--I don't have LeBron's body. So it's pointless.

It's a shame that he was always injured--but it's not like baseball is a contact sport or anything. He just didn't want it. He's tight, but he's nowhere close to being the GOAT like some made him out to be. And I'll probably get roasted for this, but he isn't a first ballot hall of famer.

I can't really disagree with the rest of your post.

However, 630 HRs and 10 consecutive gold gloves gets him in the Hall first ballot.

I don't agree with really any of your post. And then you go and say he isn't a first ballot HOFer? Now I just know you're nuts.

Name me ONE player better than Griffey since....oooooo.......1980?

I could name plenty of players I would take on my team over Griffey, because he was fucking injured every god damn year. Sorry, 382 HRs, 1,091 RBIs, 1,002 runs, 151 SBs, 10 consecutive gold gloves in the 90s ain't a line of a first ballot HOFer.
