i really want to get off of att's network. not because i think the service is bad (it's great, and the CSR is as good as i could expect) but the price is really absurd.

I'm the one of the only people in everyone of these threads who says "I wouldn't be so sure".

I can't see Apple getting a phone on Verizon or anyone else in the states until LTE rolls out.

Well, the first LTE-capable phones are due in May. Can't see Apple competing with that unless their phone is LTE-capable because it would get crushed otherwise. But they usually roll-out new phones around June and if they get in Q1 they can get some suckers.

Also, supposedly the big CDMA orders IPhone is booking is for an agreement with China's biggest carrier.

I still say, unless you're technically illiterate, comparing specs and phones side-by-side I don't know how you overpay for the IPhone.

IMO, there's no comparison between these phones until IPhone gets widgets. I don't know if IPhone can wireless tether, but that's handy too.

Apple is also usually pretty late to the game as far as new tech goes because they like everything to be solid and simple. And they value battery life. I mean, when they brought he first Iphone out without 3G people were saying they were behind the curve but it worked out for them. LTE won't be necessary for a phone to succeed for a while. Not until the rollout is complete which won't be for a few years.

Sure they could be and I wouldn't be shocked but I don't think Apple will be one of the first out of the gate with an LTE device.

Point taken, but VZW is launching LTE in 38 cities which is going to cover 2/3 of their users. If you assume most anyone in love with IPhone or smartphones already has a Droid or IPhone at this point (reasonable, no?), then LTE speeds 5-10X faster than 3G is a pretty huge selling point.

I just don't see Apple going outside of it's schedule. Which makes me think that if they do bring their device to Verizon that it will be no earlier than mid to late spring.

It's the next generation of wireless data network. Faster data speeds and such. Should be rolling out for most carriers in the next 1-3 years. It's different than what Sprint is doing with Wi-Max (what they call 4G) although I think Sprint is eventually destined for LTE too.

Please correct me if I was wrong on any of those points.

I agree completely with that.

Not only that, Verizon would not want to launch the iPhone in Q1 of next year and basically cut their Q4 sales from this year out from underneath themselves. There is a large percentage of people who would hold off from buying a phone for Christmas if they know they only have to wait another 4-8 weeks to get an iPhone.
