I was going to get it, but the extra $15 a month charge killed it for me. Love the phone though.

You can't get a phone anymore(basically) from Verizon without at least some kind of data plan. I'm sure it will be that way with all carriers soon.

The EVO will be top of the mountain...for a short time.

Should be by the end of the summer...but HTC will go back to second place soon.

Yeah, I have a data plan with Sprint, but this one is $10-15 more just because of the phone.

I get unlimited mobile-mobile, unlimited text and unlimited data for 69.99. Don't really want to go up more than that at this point. I'll stick to my BB if I have to, or I may get another Android phone like the Hero or Moment.

$10 for data is correct & the $5 is incorrect for basic video chat:
http://www.androidcentral.com/qik-responds-video-chat-free-advanced-premium-features-will-cost-extra

Qik responds: Evo 4G video chat free, 'advanced premium features' extra:

Well, there’re a number of rumors flying around that the 2-way Qik mobile video service will require a premium subscription. We wanted to clarify what that really means. Firstly, rest assured that the core Qik service that lets you communicate live from your phone to other phones, web and desktop will be FREE. Yes – this means that the core capability of doing 2-way Qik video chat will be FREE for Sprint EVO 4G users. The subscription fee will be for some advanced premium features that we are working on, which we will be announcing on June 4th – the day the amazing HTC EVO 4G phone launches.

So, tune back in on June 4th for a complete list of features of the new Qik along with the optional advanced premium features for you to enjoy!

Well, that's a bit better.

All I know is my friend is a phone tech at Sprint and when they were trained for the HTC EVO he was told there would be an extra $15 fee, $10 for data and $5 for Video chat. They were trained last week, so maybe HTC issued the statement due to this misinformation.

Ummmm, saw that the Motorola Shadow only has a 720 mHz processor and a 4.1 screen. Not to mention 3g data which is SO 2009. Nothing will beat the specs on the EVO unless its another Sprint phone with 4G.

the $5 was never going to be a requirement.

We still have to wait until Apple fully announces the next iphone 4G(4th generation, not 4G network) or iphone HD..... We still don't know what they have up there sleeves!!!!!

I really hope Sprint expands 4G to the Columbus, OH market sooner than later...

Clock speeds don't always tell the story with CPU performance. Also, I hope paying extra for 4g service when you can't get 4g service isn't so 2010. I rather run on the "old and slow" 3g network and not get bent over.

I got news for ya, if you have a smartphone on Verizon or AT&T, you're already getting bent over.

Was considering it until I found out about the extra charge. No thanks. I'm also on the 69.99 plan, discounted down to $55.

My company might be getting bent over but I am not. If my company wasn't paying for my phone, I wouldn't have any data packages on my phone.

The EVO looks like a great phone but charging extra for 4g seems like a crock.

Deploying a nationwide network with new technology costs money. Sprint doesn't exactly have a lot of money laying around. Would you like them to hike up EVERYONE'S rates, or just those with a 4G device? It's amazing how people want, nay, DEMAND new features and new technologies, yet expect their provider to give it to them free of charge.

I will be picking one up soon. I really don't think HTC will drop in sales after the new Iphone is released because the new Iphone won't bring that many new customers to At&t.

Did they do the same when they upgraded from 2G to 3G?

Yes. Unlimited data (PCS Vision) was $15/mo at the time. Unlimited 3G data (Power Vision) was $20/mo.

I hate the $10 charge and I don't need 1500 minutes but If I want two phones with a data package and unlimited texts, Sprint is the network to be on.

My buddy is opening up at his Sprint store at 8. I think he said they have 18 EVO's in stock for release.

It's going to be a hellish day in Sandusky tomorrow.

Bike Week, Cedar Point Weekend traffic, and some lame ass Anime convention at Kalahari going on.. Traffic was already bad today.
