God you Cleveland fans might be the most arrogant, unintelligent group of fans in the world
You're not making sense. Dan Gilbert is a prick because he wants to keep Lebron James in Cleveland? Seriously, what point are you trying to make?
That he has absolutely no concept of business? That's about all I can gather.
Things seem pretty simple to me.
1. In the years before LeBron, the Cavs were on the failboat. Around the bottom of the league in attendance, the standings and as a desired place for anyone to want to play. There was a legit chance they would have been eventually relocated if they didn't get him.
2. With LeBron, they're near the top of the standings and a postseason threat. They also are very successful as far as attendance goes. Ownership has shown the desire to go above the salary cap and pretty much do whatever they can in order to surround James with the right pieces (which obviously hasn't worked out yet).
NOW...if you want to go really crazy and take a huge leap of faith that Gibby refuses to do, you would correlate the franchise's improved fortunes with the presence of LeBron. You also would consider the very real possibility that the NBA would dwindle and die in Cleveland if he leaves. And you might even connect enough dots to realize that, as the owner, Gilbert would definitely NOT want his franchise to suddenly be worth a lot less than it currently is. And, with all that data, you might come to the conclusion that Gilbert realizes how much is riding on this and it's far more intelligent to overspend some now to get LeBron the coach, etc. he wants, as opposed to watching everything swirl down the drain later.
Or you can just say he's a prick who's going to make terrible decisions to keep his star. Which is easier and doesn't require a working brain.
