It seems Bungie has started to ban quitters for a half an hour for those who quit to often. I haven't found all the details out yet but do you think this is a good idea or bad idea?

In games like Madden I think it would be stupid just for the fact you get an automatic loss and the other player can finsh the game if he/she wants.

In team games though I think it is a great idea. There was heavy qutting going on in the Halo Reach Beta and I think they finally heard the fans that they are tired of it.

If there is a real life reason to quit it should take you at least the half hour ban to finish.

What they do is if you quit so often in a certain period of time they'll ban you from matchmaking for 15-30 minutes. They don't have it all worked out yet though so it could change.

I never noticed heavy quitting in the Beta and the short quitting ban wasn't prompted by anything from the Beta. They already had it planned before the Beta.

Yeah Mother Fucker!

Finish your game or hit the penalty box!

Receive your whole ass stompin instead of turning into a little bitch less than halfway through the game because you suck at it.

on Gears the host could quit and ruin the game I'm for it in that sense.

I have a baby and a family. I play when I can, but I have to quit a game about every night. I play when the baby is napping or eating, but sometimes the wife needs me to do something or the baby gets fussy, I just have to step out and get back to work.

I'm not for this unless I see the parameters.

EDIT: If it's just for 30 minutes I'm cool with it since typically when I quit a game, it's 2-3 hours before I try to get back in.

I'm glad MW2 rotates the hosting in this occasion.

I've noticed that too.

anyone know how this is done? I have a great connection and I get tired of people stealing host and then it gets to be really laggy and shitty.

Quit Probation
We talked about it last week, but talk is cheap. Quit Probation and Penalties are now being meted out in the Beta, much to the chagrin of people who apparently keep lengthy lists of legitimate reasons to quit that simultaneously weren’t legit enough to last more than 15 minutes. Yeah.

Anyway, last week we called the punitive actions for quitting a multitude of games a Quit Ban. Today, we’re revising the nomenclature to more suitably describe what’s really going on. Because we’re fickle like that.

Quit too many games and we’ll put you on a week long “probation.” Consider that a warning, not a ban. If you quit another game during your probationary period, however, you’ll be required to sit out of Matchmaking for fifteen whole entire minutes.

If you had a legitimate reason to step away, likely this won’t be seen as a severe punishment. One might imagine you may not even notice. You’ll be legitimately away doing something legitimately important while your fifteen stinkin’ minutes of shame slip away completely unnoticed by anyone.

Of course, if you’ve just jumped out because you didn’t like the way things were working out in a CTF match, making those very same things that weren’t working out work out way worse for everyone else, you’ll probably feel every minute of the timeout as you mash the A button in hopes of getting a fresh start. Then you’ll make a post to our feedback forums to let everybody know that you had an exceedingly legitimate reason to step away. “How dare u, bungee?!” If that’s the position you find yourself in, my advice is to return to the preceding paragraph above. We’ve already got your use case covered.

If you’re being routinely disconnected from Xbox LIVE and now you’re feeling the pain more than ever, this would be an opportune time to phone up technical support and finally resolve your issues. A solid connection is better for everyone involved. While you’re rooting around, you should check your NAT settings, too. Maybe think about upgrading your firmware.

All in all, these penalties amount to little more than a brief respite for those that find themselves on probation. 15 minutes for each game you quit. Of course, there’s always Phase Two, but should you happen to find yourself marked as an Extra Special Case, well, let’s just say that you’ve already been warned and you won’t want to be privy to the fine details on this front. Finish your games, please.
That's how this is actually going down.

sounds like JJ don't do this or else...

or else what?? is it a case by case thing? they spend to much time trying to be clever and not enough time laying out the rules. probably why Halo fans are so pretentious...

I honestly think it might be a nice addition... it would diversify the crowd and maybe get more Chatters.

No one said this has to be a sports only forum.

What's Bungie anyway????

I HATE when these punk ass MFers quit on me in NHL10 b/c you don't get the win, they don't get the loss. I always play it out even if I'm getting my ass kicked. Nothing better better than a sweet comeback IMO.

I think it's a great idea to have the quitter banned for a day or whatever.

Out of the 100 most recent threads on this forum, a whopping TWO are video game related. One of them has 22 posts, and the other 13.

Not exactly numbers that scream "SEPARATE ME FROM THE GENERAL FORUM!"

It's an automatic system based on a set amount of quits.

So if you quit so often in a week or so you get put on "probation" which means if you quit again you get a fifteen minute ban.

Seems like a perfect solution to me. Because the "I had a real reason to quit" excuse is even covered here. I mean, you had a "real" reason that wasn't going to take you at least fifteen minutes?

They laid out the rules pretty clearly. Don't quit. But if you do be aware that doing it often in a short span of time (a week or so) puts you at risk of getting a fifteen minute time out the next time you do it.

i like it. i think more games should adopt this. although lately my connection has sucked and on MW2 i really cant host. so i have to quit at the beginning to spare everyone a laggy ass game.
