Monday was the Boston marathon. Lady who runs with our group qualified from Columbus last fall and ran in it.

she was injured and didnt get to run much the last month before the race...like barely at all...but finished at 4hr 4m.

Anyone got some Half's for full's coming up?

I know Flying PIg, Indy Mini, Lima Ohio charity half for Haiti, and I think a cleveland one is all in the next few weeks.

Whatcha got runners and how is the training goin?

I just ran the Union Hospital Run for Home 1/2 marathon in New Philadelphia, OH. This race benefits Habitat for Humanity. What a great event. I ran a pedestrian 2:11, but I do weigh well over 200 lbs. so I was pleased with my time. I would like to run one more 1/2 before the summer heat sets in.

Cleveland Half Marathon on May 16th.

The USAF was my first half........curious to wonder why you thought it was a tough course.

Tonite is our last 'long' run/race setup for the IndyMini in two weeks as we have scheduled to do the full HM distance....

I have to admit the 35,000 runners will be a bit intimidating........

Running the down hills too fast trashed my legs.

I see. Im from a very flat area, west central ohio, and not used to hills at all but didnt think the UsAF HM was very bad at all. Couple exit ramps was about it i guess.

Im assuming Indy is pretty damned flat.

Last nite the 13.1 went well...actually extended it out to about 14. Other than throwing up a lil in my mouth...from swallowing alot of flies or whatnot at mile 5...it was about as pleasurable as 13+ miles can be.

I'm hoping to do the USAF half this year, but we'll see. I've been pretty freakin' lazy lately. I have quite a few 5K on the schedule, and may add a 10K or 2.

After your 5k's check out the various half marathon programs. It starts with a long run of 4 miles and extends from there. we all have used it last year and this spring as well and works good. I change it a bit tho toward the end and run the full HM plus a mile or so just so mentally i know i can go further....think it is like a 8 week program or whatever.

Oktoberfest in Minster is a big 10K with alot of runners first weekend in oktober usually. Plus when your done you can pig out with all the german food. I think i gain 5 lbs even tho i run 6.2 miles that day.

USAF was coool. I have ntohing else to compare it to but the flyover.....finishing the last couple hundred yards through the planes outside the museum was really cool...u should try it.

10ks are nasty races. In my opinion it is one of the hardest, most difficult distances to race. It's speed and more speed for an extended period of time.

Alot of truth to that. its short enough that you run hard throughout but not long enough to pace yourself like a HM.

Our gym did a 7K last year....4.22 or so miles. that was a little different too in getting onto you pace of what ya should and could do.

I'm not a 1/2 marathoner or a marathoner, but I do 5k's. It's exciting to have the season finally here. I ran in the Portage Lakes "Run To The Beach 5k" a few weekends ago up in Akron. It was a good race to start the season for me. I'm running in the Komen for the Cure in Columbus on May 15, and then 3 or 4 more this season, including the Akron Marathon Relay Team. Our gym has for three seasons now did a 5k running program for anyone who wants to join. You get a Team Innergy shirt, training 3 days a week, and entry into a 5k.

I dont know if other places do but in Mercer County there is a 5k challenge. There are 8 5k's in the challenge. Age groups like normal races. You race in 6 of the 8 you get a tech shirt and qualify for the standings at the end for your age group.

The challenge is free. Of course you avhe race entries but it keeps people motivate

I know there was a local county that is modeling their's after this challenge. It is kinda cool.

I just started running back in January after a visit to the doctor. I am beginning to really enjoy it. I'm planning on running the 5k at the Komen Race for the Cure. I know I really can't compete with the top runners on here (yet) but I notice my times getting better. Yesterday I got a nice two mile run in at 17:17 but that is pretty good considering I struggled to finish a mile back in mid to late January.

Fred Flintstone, that's great to hear. Don't worry about "competing" at the Komen Race in Columbus. Well, I know our group isn't. We normally run the 5K's competitively, etc., but we are not buying the $5 timing chip for Columbus... just going for the nice run with friends for a good cause. We can wear a watch to time ourselves if we want, but we're not too worried. Just keep active. Good luck!

I am not planning on buying the $5 chip either but I am planning on wearing my watch and just trying to get a good idea of what I run a 5k in when I'm in a competitive environment.

You will run faster in a competitive event than you normally do, both to start out and overall. The hardest part for me when I first started running was to "run my own race" and go the pace I wanted to go, and not be swayed by the pace of what the others were running. Just run your race, and be consistent (if that's your "race", haha).

Good luck @ the Komen race!

I use my gps watch and such for my races. Too many times the mile marker timers are off...either too far...too short..and it messes up people. Also..sometimes the courses are a lil short. There has been times ya get to the first mile marker and the guy is yelling times and people are like....'whaoo...i better slow down' and I keep on goin because the guy was short on the distance.

As far as competing......the place doesnt really matter. I mean....i am competitive as they come...and do what I can to place in my age group but ultimately im racing against myself....because sometimes someone comes in you really cannot compete with but you can still be happy if you got your PR but didnt even place.

They say if u run alot ya really shouldnt look to PR each time...take some races easier and if you rfeeling good.....then go for it...but im too competitive and always try to go fast as i can.

First time at the Indy Mini this weekend......
Man was that a blast. Just over 31000 finished I think is what it said on the website!

Cold and windy...but it really wasnt too bad for the runners. Running around the Speedway was kinda cool for a bit but got boring.....abut then on the home stretch was cool crossing the row of bricks and it did break the race up a little bit.

There was always a sea of people and made it a little hard to navigate at times but overall it was much easier to navigate through that I expected and what others had told me.

My second half.....and did much better so I was stoked.....

ANyone else do it and have a GPS? 4 of us used one and we all had the race between .21-.26 miles long......

So far I'm up to four 5Ks (Dayton Lou Cox, Yellow Springs Street Fair, Dayton Ghosts and Goblins, Cincinnati Run Like Hell), a 10K (Columbus) and a half marathon (AF). Good thing I've been so dedicated to my running schedule for the last month :X

2:19 at the cleveland half marathon today. my first time and ran with a buddy that was a little slower than me but i didnt mind.

Warm up? What's that? I think you have to actually exert yourself to need a warm up :)
