Wife and I just got our first new puppy in 19 years. He's been the best thing we've ever done since the moment he came home. 12 week old Golden Retriever, in just over 3 weeks he's 95% house trained, his 1 accident in the last 4 days was my fault for not taking him for a walk or letting him out the second we got home from football practice. We've had 3 Dachshunds since we've been married, 2 died last year (1, 16 year old died on Thanksgiving after snacking on turkey skin and drippings from the roasting pan, the other 18 years old,  we had put down the day before we left for Ohio for  Christmas because he was losing weight aggressively and was fully deaf and blind) and the other is a 17 year old senior who is basically a treat disposal at this point. She's a great old girl and I really wanted her to rub off on the puppy which she has.

When's the last time you got a new pet? Has everyone experienced an easier time training puppies/dogs as you get older? I'm curious if it's just the breed/dog or if my wife and I've gained patience and this is why the current pup has been so easy to train.

One of my aunts/uncle just got a golden last year, and she's just the sweetest thing. Perfect little lady!

We got a goldendoodle in January. We also have a 10 year old goldendoodle. It was easier to train the older one when we didn’t have kids and time to take her to training. Luckily my wife works from home so it’s a lot easier to be able to take them outside and stuff. Puppy is about 7 months old (just got spayed), but will still have accidents occasionally, mainly due to rain. The dumb breeder used pee pads when it rained instead of making them go outside so she still is getting out of that habit.

The kids are 8 and 6 so they interact with the puppy way more than the older one. We thought a puppy would help the older one have some more spunk, but that hasn’t really happened lol.

We got ours last June. She turned one on Tax Day this year.   She’s overall a pretty good girl. She’s never had an accident inside. She’s super friendly. Loves other animals and people. Her only two negatives are she’s stubborn.  The breeder said she was confident but that turned out to mean she’s just a stubborn bitch lol. She’s also very food motivated. Always hungry. And will eat anything. So you can’t leave stuff laying around. But we love her and love her for her faults too.
