He balooned all his stats against the worst part of the schedule. Honestly don't think he deserves to be mentioned in the "preseason" list. Maybe as season goes. But until he does something against a quality team....I don't believe he has earned much.
I get what you are saying, but look at the Heisman hopefuls who were invited to New York last year, who did McCoy put his big numbers up against?

And you could make that same argument against Pryor, although because he did play well against Oregon everyone seems to forget the regular season.

I don't think it's laughable to put either of those two in the discussion. Pryor has his stage against Miami. Mallett is as talented as any QB in the country and carried his team last year. He's really not playing with as much talent as everyone else in the SEC.
nobody forgets the regular season. the haters just make it out that the purdue game was the whole season. he played very well after that game. Some games his stats werent very impressive but he did take care of the ball.

centralbucksfan wrote: And Mallet was flat out BAD in those 4 losses. If he had done "ok", I would give you that. But he was bad. I realize most players pad theirs stats vs the sub par teams. But to be considered THE BEST, you have to play well in big games. Mallett has YET to do so.
Is Mallet a junior this year? He threw for 3600 yards, 30 TDs and only 7 ints. That's pretty good for a sophomore.

Alabama 20-35 247 yards, 1 TD 1 INT

McCoy
Texas Tech 24-34 205 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

Nebraska 20-36 184 yards, 3 TD

Pryor
USC 11-25 177 yards, 1 INT
Wisconsin 5-13 87 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Can't forget to include Tebow and Pryor's rushing yards against those teams. I believe Tebow and Pryor both had around 200+ total against those four teams.

Like Pryor's PSU game, he averaged 10 ypc for 50 yards and 1 TD. That makes the PSU game a lot better with 3 overall TD's and no turnovers.

I didn't know the Heisman was a career achievement award? The Heisman goes to the best player in that given year. Who would have thought Ingram would have won it heading into last season?

Not sure how that was a bad comparison when discussing next years Heisman hopefuls?

I didn't forget the regular season. His stats were extremely average for a 2nd year starter. He'll be talked about in any preseason Heisman talk because of the team he plays on will be a preseason top 5 team.

Ok, I'll keep it simple then. Where did McCoy lead his team to compared to Mallett?

It is Ingram's to lose.

If he equals the #'s he put up this year and Alabama makes another NC run, I dont know how they cant give it to him again.

That's a completely different argument and one that I would agree with. His team was much better and therefore was put at the forefront of the Heisman talks. But that wasn't your original argument.

Only because I didn't include it in my original post, because quite frankly, it wasn't needed. There really is no arguement here. Comparing McCoy, one of the most successful college QB's of all time to Mallett is laughable.
This is all thats needed:
4 losses, Mallett Stats:
vs Bama
12-35 for 160yds 1td, 1int
vs Florida
12-27 for 224 1td
vs Miss
12-34 for 250 1 td
vs LSU
17-39 for 227 1 td 1 int

Other loss was to Georgia where he did have a fine game. But Georgia, along with LSU were not that great. But still, all of those teams were the most competative teams on Ark schedule and he didn't exactly perform very well at all.

I'm really not sure what you are trying to prove? That McCoy was the better QB last year? That Mallett shouldn't be in preseason talk?

This topic is about potential Heisman candidates for next year. You thought Mallett being mentioned was a joke because he didn't perform well in big games. I showed you a list of the Heisman candidates from last year and also Pryor who people are throwing out there.

If anything, I think you can admit that like Mallett, McCoy didn't play well in his big games last year, but was still at the ceremony.

And you include Mississippi, but leave out LSU? I'm not really sure what your argument is here?

Why exactly is that laughable?

Season stats:
Mallett: 152.5 QB rating, 56% completion percentage, 403 attempts, 3627 yards, 30 TD, 7 INT
McCoy: 147.4 QB Rating, 70% completion percentage, 470 attempts, 3521 yards, 27 TD, 12 INT

Mallett will likely be a top 10 pick in next year's draft. McCoy likely won't be a 1st rounder.

If you want to argue who had the better team, no one will argue with you. But to say that comparing Mallett to McCoy is laughable just makes you look stupid.

Yes, because history shows that the Heisman winner from the previous year wins the Heisman the next year.

This is what we call a deluded media opinion. The truth is you know nothing about sports, but you want to sound like you know what you are talking about by using a cliche'd argument. The Heisman doesn't work like that, and I will bet ANY amount of money that Ingram won't win the Heisman next year.

$1,000? That's a good starting point.

Are people upset that I dont think Pryor is a leading Canidate?

The NCAA LOVES Alabama.

Like I said before, if Ingram and Alabama equal what they did last year, he will win it again. If he does not then there will never be a 2 time winner and somebody out there doesnt want it to happen.

I know nothing about sports?

What do you know?

That is a good starting point.

There will never be ANOTHER two time winner. Archie Griffin is the only and will be the only 2 time Heisman winner.

Thank you for proving my point, you know nothing about sports.

So I know nothing about sports because I think there should be another 2 time winner?

And you didnt answer my question, what exactly makes you an expert?

You conveniently left out McCoy's worst 4 games from last season I see. Go ahead and look them up, I guarantee you that you won't be any more impressed by his numbers in the first 4-5 games of last year, than you were with Mallett's stats.

I'm surprised it took till page 5 to see Christian Ponder's name. Dude was a stud last year before he got injured and will definately be in the heisman discussion all year especially if FSU is winning.

i mentioned ponders name because i was looking at some stats ad i noticed it took terrel pryor 12 or 13 games to accomplish what ponder did in 9 games . so i wondered why no one had his name in the mix.

There certainly could be, but Ingram is not going to be that guy.

Now put your money where your mouth is, I said $1,000 and you balked. Don't be scared, he's the frontrunner, right?

Because he plays for a team that hasn't won more than 9 games in about 5 years, and history is not kind to players winning the heisman on 6-8 win teams. If Florida state ever gets back to form with him playing QB, he will rocket up the list, but until FSU gets a defense, i don't see that happening.

Ryan Mallet's pure skill set is as good if not better than McCoy's, so you can't say a comparison is laughable.

I also think it's Ingram's to lose, but don't be shocked if FSU has a 10-2 season and Ponder is right up there.
