Tornado

We got extremely lucky last night. We were in Kentucky at the lakehouse when it hit. One touched down within a mile of the lakehouse. That seemed to be a smaller one that destroyed one home and damaged a few others and took down a lot of trees.

Then the marina where we keep the boat had the two bad tornadoes touch down about 500 yards from the dock. That one destroyed about  3/4 of the neighborhood above the marina and stayed in the ground for close to 20-30 miles.

Then about 45 minutes later another tornado took that same path. We have heard so far around 20 dead. I think they are still searching for some and about a dozen are in critical condition.

The boat and house were fine besides losing power. It was pretty crazy to see the destruction this morning when we woke up. We decided to drive back to Columbus today. Pray for those in Kentucky.

We were watching closely….missed my area of southern Ohio mostly

Had a former student in Louisville I checked on. It was bad there. My daughter in Catlettsburg had bad stuff not awfully far from them.

Yeah take the warnings seriously. I usually don’t but last night I was actually watching on TikTok and a couple different people said it was on the ground near us. Got the dog and went to the basement and wife said she was staying in bed. She regretted her decision this morning when she saw how close to the destruction we were.

Glad you're safe. I hadn't heard about the tornadoes until the Reds did a moment of silence before the game tonight.

Had one pass by me many years ago.  It was a little over a mile out.  I went into work on a Saturday so the office was empty.  My office at the time had no window but faced the atrium.  Had a sidelite that faced the skylight over the atrium.   I was on the ground floor but you could tell when the natural light diminished.  Especially without the main lights on.  Got up and went to the side door.  Cars pulled over on the side of the road and some in the parking lot.  Looked bad but had no idea it was a tornado until I left work and saw the damage.  Today your cell phone is the best warning.

Yeah it actually crazy everyone saying there was no warning. We got three separate warnings from sirens and our cell phones. The only argument I’ve seen made about the warning was they should have made a Tornado Emergency call way earlier because it showed it on the ground on radar but no one had confirmed it. Personally I’m not sure how much of a difference people would take in finding shelter between a warning and emergency.

I think when the whole story comes out a few of the deaths will be because people left their shelter after the first tornado and were hit by the second tornado that took the same path. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened to the firefighter who died. He was out responding to the first when the second hit
