I'm up grading my home computer system.

Here is what I'm looking at: Microsoft - Surface Pro – 12.3” – Intel Core i7 – 16GB Memory - 1TB Solid State Drive

I like the fact that i can also use it as a tablet, attach a larger monitor if I want and love the pencil option/ touch screen

NETGEAR - CM1000 Ultra-High Speed DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem

NETGEAR - Nighthawk AC1900 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router

The reason for not getting a dual router/modem is because my house is big, with thick walls from room to room and my outside deck is at the far end of the house, along with my family room and i needed a strong router that does not come in a dual combo.

Is this a good set-up and computer... need your support and opinion.

Not sure about the router/modem situation, but the Surface Pro's are nice machines.

It comes down to personal preference. If I was spending that kind of coin I would get a kick-ass desktop and a nice tablet. If you want the all in one, it sounds good.

What is the machine going to be used for?

Mostly home usage, however I like the Laptop / Tablet combo, I will use it in the being of my non profit mission business QuickBooks and some documents and graphics.

The Surface Pro makes for a pretty lousy actual laptop experience (and Windows is a pretty lousy tablet experience). If you want to use a machine truly on your lap, with tablet and pen capabilities, then take a look at the 2-in1's like the Lenovo Yoga, Dell XPS 2-in1, or the HP Spectre. There are a few others that are even lighter, like the Zenbook and LaVie 360. Just be aware that you really need to touch and experiment on the ultrabooks because the keyboards can be awkward on some. Personally, I'd go with the Yoga or XPS 2-in-1.

In any case, if you want a larger screen you have a lot of options, as well. Bluetooth keyboards and mice are quite good, and then a simple HDMI cable can attach a larger screen (or you can use a chromecast).

He doesn't need to spend squat. It's Belly - he's surfing WebMd and watching Golden Girl reruns. He should get a 2-in-1 chromebook that runs android apps.
