All wishful thinking? I don't think Stoops is a "pipe dream" at all. As for Meyer, notice how I said "shocked".:-/
I meant wishful thinking on Urban Meyer. I did notice the "shocked", that's why I lol'd with you, not at you.

Stoops and Meyer are at two of the biggest programs in the country. They could go through a bad year or two (as Stoops is going through this year) without anyone calling for their heads. I think Kelly will stay pat at UC for a few more years and then go to the Big 10.

Let's face it, Notre Dame is not special any more. The days when ND could pull all the top recruits are over. The only thing ND has going for it right now is money. They get to keep all the bowl money since they are not in a conference and they have their deal with NBC. They are going to have to pay a fortune for their next coach, but they have the money to spend.
First off, there are alot of disgruntled OU fans who want Stoops gone just like the idiotic OSU fans who call for Tressel's head when things don't go right. Second, Brian Kelly would KILL for the ND job. Finally, ND is still a special place, the history is legend, the facilities are second to none and YES, they can still recruit, if there's one thing Weis did do it was recruit highly rated talent to ND. If ND can get a coach who can develop these kids they'll be back sooner (no pun intended) rather than later.

Notre Dame had 3 top 10 recruiting classes in a row, but they can't recruit anymore.

Notre Dame is the top story on every major sports news outlet, but they are not special anymore.

When is the last time any of the "special" programs (OSU, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, etc) had a 3 year run where their bowl games were:

No Bowl at All vs. Nobody

Hawaii Bowl vs. Hawaii

GMAC Bowl (Mobile AL)vs. Central Michigan or Ohio

?

But it's great to hear they have 3 straight top 10 classes. That should do wonders for them sometime. Maybe next year they can play their bowl game in Toronto, DC, Boise, or Detroit. That would be "special"

Maybe next year they can create their own bowl. "We Wish it was 1945 Bowl" They can play Army or Yale.

2 years that you have listed were when one of our worst coaches in history coached our team. So that is a good example of why ND needs to be smart about this hire. We hired a new coach and he has us on top of college football again, although the coach prior to him did have OSU on top alot as well.

I'm aware, I just posted that to show that it's possible to look at 3 year window on any of the "special" programs listed and find an example. There have been down years in every major program, although some posters feel OSU is exempt from this. I have said many times OSU has had one of the most successful programs over the last decade.

PS, isn't that three year window the three years that preceeded Ohio State's first national championship in 30-40 years?

Mark it down though, this has been in the works since shortly after the Pittsburgh loss. Look for an announcement Wednesday or Thursday (I can't remember which).

Two January 1st bowl games against SEC teams over three years is a bit different than two mid December bowl games against mid majors over three years.

Agreed but some of your bucknut brethren said the only bowls that matter since the BCS came into the picture are the BCS bowls. Again, OSU has had more success over the past decade than Notre Dame, no need to start that argument again.

I've never understood this belief that there is a positive correlation between the date of the bowl and the prestige it carries. Assuming Notre Dame accepts the GMAC Bowl bid (any word on that?), they will play on January 6, is it more prestigious than the Sugar Bowl? Hell no.

And by the way, in 2000 and 2001, the SEC wasn't nearly as dominant as it was now. I wouldn't chalk up losses to "senile" Lou Holtz as any better than a victory over Hawai'i.

Brian Kelly can't get to South Bend fast enough so he can shout, "Look at me Ma...I'm the head coach of Notre F'n Dame!" But the Domers-In-Charge are going to dick around for a few days just to make sure they can't somehow lure Bob Stoops into their bottomless pit of ex-coaches which Kelly will be in 3 more years.

This is a good read on Brian Kelly. Maybe he wouldn't be too bad. I'll starting thinking Bob Stoops isn't coming on Friday though.
I agree, I'll believe Stoops isn't coming when another coach signs a contract. Until that happens, I am convinced He will be the new coach

I am hearing that Stoops' agent and ND could not hammer out the numbers in detail, and Bob says he is staying in Okla.
My opinion is that Stoops is using both schools. He may still go to ND

kelly should have always been the number one guy, and another thing that article fails to mention, he is *cheaper* than stoops as well....

I thought it was posted on here about one poster having an inside source(or what ever the wording was) that Stoops was the next head coach.
