ccrunner, you mentioned Diebler is better bc he plays with the likes of Turner and Lighty. I like David Lighty's game. Check the website I posted. Diebler gets drafted and Lighty doesnt. These are NBA scout type people, not just inet schmucks like you and I.
Same NBA scouts that overrated Kwame Brown, said Darko was as good as Melo and MAYBE even LeBron, labelled JJ Redick and Adam Morrison as lottery picks. Jordan didn't go #1. Kobe was picked what? 17th, 18th? Point is, they're wrong on a pretty consistent basis. There are some guys you obviously can't miss on, but they aren't always right.
That being said, regardless of what they say give me Lighty over Diebler all day as far as the NBA goes. Diebler won't do shit in the league--I wouldn't be surprised if he never played a single NBA minute. IMO, Lighty could be a decent player in the league because of DEFENSE. That man can play D, defensive minded players find homes in the NBA. He'll get his shot just like Diebler does, whether he's drafted or not. Anyone gets a "shot" now with the D-league in play, it's just a minors for the NBA obviously. But I like Lighty's chances of getting on a roster a hell of a lot better than Dieblers.
But with all of that being said, regardless of their potential draft position, it doesn't mean that Diebler doesn't benefit from Lighty. Any elementary basketball mind could see how that would be true just knowing the kind of players they are--you don't even have to watch them play. Diebler is a set shooter, Lighty is a slasher. Lighty plays off the dribble a lot--players like Diebler rely on guys that play off the dribble to shrink the D and hit them in open spots. So he's still right, Diebler's best asset is Turner and Lighty. If he had to create his own shot, he'd be AWFUL. But a shooter is a shooter, he's streaky as hell but he can still shoot the rock. Problem for him is, even set shooters have to be able to create for themselves in the NBA. 3 point shooters are a dime a dozen in the league--if you don't believe me, look at a guy like Boobie Gibson. He hardly gets minutes for the Cavs, but he's a hell of a 3 point shooter. There are always new names at the top of the list of 3 ball shooters every year, new guys in the 3 point contest every year. There are plenty of guys who play off of other guys in the NBA and are basically set shooters--but they can all create for themselves. A good example is Cook from OSU. He's not great at it, but he can still create his own shot when he has to. Diebler can't do that in the Big 10--he's not near athletic enough to do it in the NBA. Can't play defense for shit either, and he's not very strong. Can you imagine him trying to guard Mike Conley? Conley is an average guard in the NBA, he would abuse Diebler. I'm not sure you could say he'd do the same to Lighty...
