Vince all the way. JRich has the better overall dunk. But much like some guys are "practice guys", JRich is a contest guy. VC is a WAAAY better in-game dunker.

Where did I ever say that Richardson was better than VC?

I still put VC above him, and he's still top 10 in my mind. No doubt about it--but he's overrated.

I just used Richardson to show how stupid it was that VC gets so much credit for his dunk contest dunks. IMO he doesn't have a single dunk in the top 10 all-time contest dunks.

In games, it's not totally about creativity.

Don't care if it didn't count. No one does that shit in a game...no one.
Yes once in a while he does one of those...but for the most part its just a 1 hand cockback. And if its not all about creativity...then Dwight Howard should be above everyone in the league bc he's lead the last like 4 or w/e years hes been in the league

Big men don't count in this discussion, because a dunk is a regular part of their game.

I agree there is a generation gap here in this discussion. I would but Dr. J and Dominique ahead of MJ as in game dunkers. Dr. J could energize his team with just one dunk and change the momentum of the game. Dominique was just brutal to see some of the shit he threw down. No one got in his way which opened up defenses. Maybe MJ was a more all around player

The new guys can't?

That dunk energized the entire building and killed the Pistons EC dynasty.

Well let me explain a little further, and this probably furthers the generation gap argument, yes the new guys can energize their teams with a monster dunk. But back in Dr. J's day the monster dunk wasn't as commonplace as it is in the game now. It didn't happen every quarter or every game, so when it happened it had more of an impact. Now you expect someone to get it going with a dunk, back then when it happened it was an rarity.

I would love to see if Dennis Rodman or Bill Lambeer would of allowed that uncontested dunk?
Oh come on? That old line again?

I would have loved to see Bill Lambeer even try to step in the way of that freight train. If he was able to get over there quickly enough, that's a big if, he would have gotten posterized. Bill Lambeer was a tough guy underneath, but if you think he's going to abuse LeBron when he breaks off like that you're nuts. LeBron is heavier now than Lambeer was in his playing days.

Lol Alonzo Mourning was an enforcer and one of the best shot blockers in NBA history...You see what VC did to him lol.

Whos MJ's best posterization on? Patrick I play no defense Ewing?

ccrunner609 wrote: THe generation gap here is amazing. there is no way that VC would ever be considered in the conversation with MJ if you were able to watch Jordan revolutionize the dunk in the 80's.

Jordan is the greatest in game dunker of all time. Who gives a shit about dunk contests.
revolutionized what? He took everything he had from Dr J

Watching You Tube highlights of Dr. J and/or Dominique cannot give one the perspective of their impact on the game as seeing it go down in real time can.

Yeah, I actually give that dunk a higher rating than the dunk over Weis.

I said a lot of his dunks are overrated, I didn't say he wasn't one of the best.

I'm just sayin', a lot of guys have the hops VC does. That just doesn't set itself up as well as it did for him. Most guys don't just stand there like that when someone is flying in--and most guys don't set up to take a charge 2 seconds before the guy is even to you.

Like I said, I saw Nate Robinson jump over Dwight Howard. I don't care if it wasn't in a game, he's 5'6. That's every bit as impressive as VC's. It's a great dunk, it's a great highlight but it's not as special as people make it out to be.
