Definatley a downgrade, but we need a back to fill that role.
THIS...chester taylor was by far the best #2 RB in the NFL, and would have started at many other places, def a big loss

I never understand why these guys want to switch from a contender (Vikings) to a team with a lot of questions (Bears). Why not just take less money and keep the team in tact and try to win a SB???

I wonder if the Vikes will look at Westbrook if LT signs w/ the Jets......If not him then who's gonna be #2 RB in MIN???? Someone already on the roster??? Are they gonna try to draft a back in the later rounds???

You ain't kiddin'. I really wish they'd have done whatever was necessary to keep CT b/c all in all I thought he was AS GOOD AS AD...No fumble issues, ran hard (as hard as Peterson many times), caught the ball. He was huge. I put him right up there with AD. I think he's THAT good....

To fill the needs the Vikings have behind Peterson, give me Westbrook over LT any day of the week.

Strapping--If they don't get either, do you think they'll try to use Percy in the backfield more?

LT's add wouldn't downgrade them a whole lot.
Uh, yeah he will. Chester Taylor is the best 3rd down back in football, especially in that offense IMO. Pretty much anyone would be a downgrade in that role after losing Taylor.

Kevin Faulk might have something to say about that.

But I totally agree with the rest of your post.

True, Faulk is pretty good too.

Yeah, I forgot they'd mentioned that possibility. I'd like to see PH used in some different situations, but I'd still like to see another true running back behind AD. I don't want to see PH taking too many hits from the RB position, due to his health issues.

I'd also like to see them use TJ as a QB in the wildcat next year, with PH and AD.....I just hope TJ isn't our full time QB. :)

I'd have to agree with that, but at the same time, Peterson has to be on the field. All they need is a 3rd down back--if it's short yardage, leave Peterson in there or just pick up some cheap bruiser maybe. Most 3rd down situations have the back running a route--Harvin could be deadly at that, and even a great decoy.

I mean, maybe it's just me, but I fully expect Peterson to bounce back from his fumbling issues.

True, if Peterson can get his act together they could use PH strictly on long 3rd downs. Problem is, in the past they've needed an actual RB to carry the load when AD isn't up to snuff.....

I felt as comfortable if not more comfortable w/ CT carrying the ball on any down and now they don't have that. CT was like Peterson w/out the liabilities, IMO.

I just worry now that when AD is coughing up the ball and dropping passes, who is going to shoulder the load when he's on the sideline???

Now if AD can overcome the issues then they don't necessarily need that relief RB....Big IF however.

They certainly need some depth. But I think Peterson will come back a lot better than he's been yet--which is scary for the entire league.

I think he's just one of those kinds of players--he's on top and he'll still work harder to get better this offseason than anyone. He's one of those guys that is never satisfied, and you could see the disappointment in him after they lost. He knew it was on him, he knows he can't let that happen again.

Yeah , but after he fumbled in OT in CHI late in the season he guaranteed he would use the memory of fumbling that game away to help him improve. Well, it didn't work out that way.

There is a big difference in that he has an entire offseason to fix the problem, though. I know it's something he's struggled with and now that it's so well known that he'll fumble, defenders zero on that.

Another thing is, it seems like when he focuses too much on protecting the ball it affect s the way he hits the hole. I think he needs to run reckless to run at his full potential. When he thinks to hard about holding onto the ball it slows him down.

I think he can go reckless until the end of the run and then he needs to just cover the ball up and not fight so hard for an extra two or three yards. I'm naturally skeptical so I think if he was going to correct the problem he'd have done so already. Maybe he needs a coaching change or something they haven't tried yet. I just hope whatever the solution they find it before next season b/c he can't continue to fumble like that.

He is hard-working so he's got that going for him. I think he will put 100% into overcoming the fumblitis.....

I agree, ball security worries seem to slow him down sometimes--he'll talk to coaches, former players, work his ass off and change the way he carries it. He'll be more than fine, he's going to be the most dominant offensive player who isn't a QB for the next 5-6 NFL seasons IMO.

I kind of felt bad for him during that NFC championship game.. I mean just running and the ball popping out..he had to feel terrible.

No doubt, when he is on his game he is the best maybe 2nd best rb in the league.

I still think he's better than Johnson. Johnson did have the better season though. I'm anxious to see how he plays this year.

I think AP is just a guy will that will fumble a lot because of his style. He carries the ball like a loaf of bread, but at the same time, keeping his arm out allows him to make some of those nasty moves. You gotta take the little bit of bad with the crap loads of greatness. He's been in the league long enough now to fix that problem and he hasn't.

I agree to an extent, but he's certainly still young enough to learn some lessons as great as he is. I don't think he's ever had an eye opening disappointment like he did in the last game though. We'll see if he changes anything.
