LOL, we're talking about a guy who has been to the Finals, lost to the champs and lost in the ECF. Look at the list of coaches you said are better than MB and consider what you just said about coaching in the playoffs. You'll see that a lot of your list is BS.

And if you think they turn into the 2005 Lakers, you don't watch the Cavs much. It does not turn into everyone watching LeBron. You don't even have to look back very far, look at all the guys who have made big shots down the stretch recently. You've just made it clear that you don't watch them consistently enough to make that strong of an opinion.

BTW, the 05 Lakers finished the season under .500. LOL, try again.

Then, I read Mike D'Antoni? lol.. I seriously almost lost it.. Phoenix realized the fraud he was as a coach.. Yeah, you pretty much just proved my point..

As long as teams can score "pretty", the coach must be good.. But, his teams have always SUCKED defensively.. He has had some stacked teams and could NEVER get over the hump.. Hell, he never even got to the finals, and he NEVER will..

Mike Brown, with LeBron, took a Cavs team in '07 who was full of journeymen and roleplayers to the Finals.. I mean seriously, back in '07 the case could be made that BOOBIE was the 2nd best player on the team... smh..

And of course, the HIGHLY underrated Cavs offense which averages 102.2 PPG

The vaunted Lakers offense? They average 102.6 PPG

Man, that .4 really makes a difference in terms of the big picture! How does Phil do it?

Defensively? Cleveland gives up 95.1 PPG, which means they outscore opponents by 7.1 PPG...

The Lakers give up 96.6, which means they outscore their opponents by 6 PPG...

Mike Brown has done a very nice job in Cleveland and in my opinion, he has grown as a coach as the Cavs have grown as a team. Every journey starts with the first step and Coach Brown and the Cavs are very close to taking that final step. We shouldn't be causing dissention at this point since the team is so close to the ultimate prize, and Coach Brown is an incredibly important part of that evolution. Every coach has strengths and weaknesses. The list of potentially better coaches that I see on here is just that. It is a list of people who have not coached this team, do not know these athletes like Mike Brown does, do not have the same relationships with these players as Mike Brown has, and have not done a single thing to prove that they would be better for the Cavs than Mike Brown has already proven to be. None of them are members of the Cavalier "family" and I think the rapport that Coach Brown has with these guys will be important in carrying the team to the ultimate prize.

I realize that this post is "off topic" also, but this whole topic was re-directed very quickly and I thouht I'd throw in my two cents concerning the ridiculous suggestion that the Cavs need a new coach.

Are those stats from the regular season? Let's not get hung up on regular season statistics. Remember last year, the Cavs were "the best team in the East" during the regular season. But where did that get them in the playoffs.

I've said all along Brown is a solid coach. I never said he was bad, nor that he deserved to be fired. Just that in playoff time he seems to get outcoached from time to time

Sorry for the delay, SQ. I didn't want you to think that I had forgotten about you. Although, after reading that you thought Anderson Varejao had a snowball's chance in hell at the Hall of Fame, I'm really not even sure I want to get into this with you.

Mike Brown is a solid NBA coach. There is better and there is certainly worse. However, in the NBA playoffs, coaches are exposed. And unfortunately for Brown, the coaches in the playoffs will all be better than him. Now, this isn't to say that the Cavs can't win in spite of him (see the ring on Doc Rivers' finger), but he will certainly hamper them along the way.

I'm not talking about the offenses ability to score points during the regular season against the likes of the vaunted 76ers defense.

I'm talking about being able to score on play-off defenses in the waning minutes of a game.

For example--check the Lakers-Cavs game from January. The Lakers had NO BUSINESS being in that game--and could've stolen it, had sorry ass Pau Gasol sacked up and hit a couple of fucking free throws. Also, look at the last Nuggets-Cavs showdown. Another example of not getting points out of anybody but LeBron.


Mike Brown, with the game on the line, not drawing up a play.

Also, when it comes to rotations and substitutions (an underrated part of playoff coaching)---Mike Brown is a fucking idiot. Anybody who reads Windhorsts' game blogs (or simply watches the Cavs play) knows this. In fact, you can't prove to me that Mike Brown doesn't draw his rotations out of a hat.

I agree Sage, but fortunately for us Ferry has assembled a great team that will carry Cleveland to a championship imo.

It will be interesting to see if Brown can get a set rotation in once everyone (minus Shaq) is back in a couple weeks. We all know Shaq will come in and play his 25-30 minutes at C.

I honestly think it will be Lakers vs. Cavs in the Finals and it will be the most exciting Finals in YEARS, maybe even ever.

Unfortunately, I think Brown loses us a game or two with poor decisions. He's a good NBA coach but not great.

I'm far from a Mike Brown apologist, but I'll take this angle.

Mike Brown does teach defense with a ton of knowledge, and it translates obviously. He's not an offensive guru, also obvious imo. So what's wrong with letting your coaches who you feel are better at drawing up offensive inbounds plays do so? Does that not show a degree of smatrs, letting those do their job that you brought them in to do? Since you're not great at it yourself?

The d has definietly slipped, but not vastly. But better watch out, you offer an opinion degrading this year's team versus last last year's team, and the board will fry your ass. and it doesn't matter how accurate your assessment might be.

The idea that this year's team is overall better than last year's team is simply inaccurate. Both are/were equally strong, with the overall edge going to last year's group.

I agree, but the % allowed from the field has gone up...which I believe is a bigger indicator over and above the 1 point.

Brownie is an excellent coach. Won coach of the year last year for a reason.

I really don't care how it compares to last year, no offense, but as long as they're still in the top 5 statistically I'm fine with it. The probelm I see with comparing season to season revolves around personnel changes, not just within your own squad but with everyone elses. If all things remained equal it would be a worthy point of discussion imo.

Coaches are the most underrated factor in the playoffs. Trust me. Mike Brown will cost his team a game or two in the playoffs. Will it cost the Cavs? Maybe.
As boring and perhaps as ugly as it is, having LBJ with the ball going one on one, with either driving or dishing, gives the Cavs the best chance of scoring with the game on the line. Any coach that did anything different, would be an idiot.
