I got a notice in the mail today from USPS noting that they tried to deliver a piece of certified mail and under Sender's Name it says "Atty'n at Law."
It is available for pickup tomorrow at the post office.

My question is, if anyone knows, what could it be? I can't be served through the mail, can I?

Not only does not accepting it delay the innevitable, it opens up the possibility of them serving you at work via the sheriff..not a good look having just started a new job and all.

No one wastes money to send junk mail as "certified." It is probably in your best interest to sign for it and open it.

Exactly. Could it be an atty representing a long lost past due bill? Medical bill or something? Dont Sherriff's Dep serve this type of stuff? Attys usually threatening you about collecting on something?

Actually..they do. I have received a couple 'certified' letters that just ended up being sweepstakes shit.

Not too sure about that. I had certified mail last month that was just some sort of shopping survey.

The first time..I didn't really care..I was home..the second time..I wasn't home..and had to go to the post office. That indeed did piss me off.

This could likely be nothing, and I don't know how it works in Ohio, but if a return receipt is requested (almost certainly) and you don't claim then in the event it is a summons or something like that it just gives the complaining party more options to serve, that is in some jurisdictions.

My mail lady friend says that you CAN be served through the mail. She said that you can still go look at the letter and see what it is and still refuse it. She said that if you refuse it, it will be sent back to the sender. The other option you have is letting it sit for 12 days and after those 12 days it will be sent back to the sender.

At most jobs I would agree with you but it wouldn't hurt my image at all with this company.

I think I've figured out what it is. I have an unpaid ambulance bill that I forgot about from my bachelor party back in June. I'm almost positive it is in regards to that.
