Ok so this has been a frustrating topic for any and all NW ohio area division 1 schools. Being placed with the top 2 schools in the state at districts, St. Eds and Wadsworth, along with several other elite CLEVELAND AREA schools is putting our wrestlers at a severe disadvantage.

Its not like the schools from the Northeast district area were put in to the Northwest wrestling districts based on geography, rather the bastard invincibles that the other "normal" schools that are currently in the Northeast/Mentor districts dont want. Get out a map, I am right.

That was a change that took place back in 2003 and has been a mess of bull crap ever since. Northwest ohio doesnt even have a district really. Were practically the red headed step child that has the privelage to tag along with the Northeast district #1 of 2. 1 out of 7 wrestlers that qualified for state out of the 2010 Ashland districts, starring the Eagles and Grizzely Bears, were from NW ohio all of which will probably be state placers considering every other district is historically and statistically weaker.

So I say this; the district organization needs to either go back to the way it was 2003 or a MAJOR overhaul is needed

Let me start off saying I agree that the Districts should be regionally based. I have always felt that way. Does that mean several wrestlers in every weight class and every Division in Northeast Ohio will be at home the weekend of the State Tournament while lesser wrestlers qualify from areas of the State that are not as strong as NE Ohio? Yes, but it also means that the wrestlers coming out of the NE Disticts will be battle hardend and will dominate. That's the way it used when Mentor was Mentor.

That being said, I think most people think the best 16 wrestlers throughout the state should be in the State bracket. Moving some of the teams from the NE Districts over to NW was an attempt to achieve that goal. And it has worked, kind of.

The only issue I have with the above post, it that you're basically saying, "hey, those NE teams are too good, we don't want them here". Wouldn't State qualification be a little hollow if you knew the only reason you went was because kids better than you were put somewhere with kids better than them?

Consider DI, 112. Nothing special about that weight, it's just the one I'm looking at right now. The eight quaifiers from Ashland and Mentor were Bright, Newhouse, Fehr, Collica, Grey, Mines, Ague and Griffith from St. Edward, Perry, Barberton, Solon, Wadsworth, Maple Hts., Fitch and Medina, respectively. In a regional system, four of those well deserving wrestlers who proved themselves on the mat and won their way in would have had to stay home becuase they would have been in the same District tourney that the other four were in. How fair is that?

My solution to meet both our regional requirements and the make an honest attempt at the best 16 guys, is to make qualifying something like what the NCAA does. Maybe you can compete against your local area, but only your District champ qualifies. And maybe the NE District takes seven down to The Schott? Would you feel better about a system like that?

Look at 119, 3 of the top 4 are predicted to take 2nd thru 4th place and the 4th placer from Ash. is predited to take 8th.

Oh yeh, and a St Ed wrestler doesn't make it out.

Yes, but to the more to the point, three out of four of the placers were from the Northeast. Champion Squire from Wadsworth, third place finisher Robinson from Southview and fourth place finisher Baran from Brecksville. Only runner-up, Caston, is a "local" kid.

All of these stats are tallied up, so dont expect computer accuracy, but im in the ball park

8 out of 14 state champions were Ashland district wrestlers, 8 more placed second, 3-3rd, 4-4th, 4-5th, 4-6th, 1-7th, 4-8th
33% of all placers were from Ashland district
Ashland district wrestlers had a combined total tournament record of 125-90(.581), and also were 105-69(.603) against out of district wrestlers
Ashland district was responsible for 5 championships that were rematches from district. All other districts were responsible for 2.
Combined district team scores(top 30 teams): Ashland - 521, Mentor - 253.5, Hillard - 234.5, Fairfield - 207.5

Sounds like a good plan if they keep the northwest district in with the Northeast super district. And Im not saying we dont want to have to wrestler NE's good teams, Im saying we dont want to wrestle THE MAJORITY of them. The other districts can drag some of the weight too.

Either way, the districts need to be evened out, these stats arent just a one time occurance.

Not much input from others, is that because facts and truth are hard to argue or does noone want to change this bull crap? I assume the latter considering the only ones at a loss here is the absorbed NW district

I find it hard to call the NW "crybabies" about getting rid of the NE teams when the NE did exactly what they are acusing the NW of doing. The NE teams should be in the NE district. Period. Otherwise, there is no point in using a district system. What if the NE and NW combined have the 16 best wrestlers in the state? Some will get knocked out to allow the 2 other districts to get in. Someone will always be left behind. Thats the nature of the beast. Teams should not wrestle outside their district for the district meet.
