Me and my fiance are planning to just go to the J.O.P. to get married, and we know of course we need the marriage license, the only question we have is, how long do you have to wait to get married after getting the license?

Someone told us, you have to have it for at least 30 days before getting married, but that doesn't sound right.

If there's a waiting period in your state, take advantage of it. Make sure you're doing what you really want to do. That's why it's there. I can't tell you what it is in Ohio (or Texas for that matter), but there are exceptions to it and a little bit of paper work. You can actually get your license and get married in the same day if you file the required paperwork and get a judge to marry you at the court. I did it once.

Thank you stiffman.

We've been together for almost 4 years, engaged for almost 2, we just both don't want the pressure of the whole wedding thing.

Well...

When my ex went and married the guy she was banging 2 months after I kicked her ass to the curb, she got a marriage license on monday and executed it on tuesday. This was in Ohio just last year.

I believe here in Ohio you have 30 days to get married after getting the license, otherwise you have to reapply, so, if you aren't married by those 30 days, you gotta pay again. It's been over 10 years for me, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

In Ohio, there is no wait. You can get your marriage license and get married that same day.

States that have these regulations are just trying to stem the costs associated with divorce proceedings. If you have been together for 6yrs you are not who they are guarding against. If you have waited this long an extra time limit should not be a problem.

I wish you a and your future spouse a long and happy life together.

Well, with my sisters-in-law down in Kentucky, it depended on how far along they were in labor.

Oh man, that sucks, but chances are she was banging him before you kicked her to the curb.

Sounds like you made the right choice though.
