Game got pushed back 2 hours because of water main break, but holy cow this game has been a war.

2nd OT right now, 1 point game with :30 to play.

Largest lead for either team tonight has been 5.

Vasquez has 41 points for Maryland. Delaney and Allen both have 25.

Maryland now up 3 with 21 secs, VT ball. A maryland loss gives Duke the ACC regular season crown.

Grievis just once again showing why he's an All-American. He is a tremendous, tremendous player. This performance today might be enough to give him ACC POTY honors, something a few short weeks ago I would have thought to be impossible not to belong to Jon Scheyer. But Vasquez has been putting up some phenomenal numbers this season. He's as clutch as they come.

I think the award may come down to Wednesday's Duke-Maryland showdown. Scheyer and Vasquez have separated themselves from the pack, IMO, based on where their teams now sit in the ACC race, positioned at one and two.

Jeff Allen can be a beast when he gets to stay on the floor.Vasquez took 33 shots to score 41. Is that good? VT may be falling out of the tournament.

A maryland loss gives Duke the ACC regular season crown.
The only crown that counts in the ACC is the tournament crown. At least, that is what I've heard many times.

Is it possible for you to make a comment without referencing anything duke?

I think the ACC POTY race is relevant to the Grievis discussion. And that race, as I see it, is now down to Vasquez and Scheyer.

And yes, I post all the time without mentioning Duke.

There actually is a trophy given to the ACC regular season champion. I have seen it. I have a picture, I will find it and post it sometime. I was shocked, but it does exist.

I'm sorry, I didn't know this was a Grevis discussion or a discussion about the ACC POTY.

The reason there is any recognition given out for the ACC regular season at all is because Cliff Ellis, former Clemson coach, whined that his Tigers should get "something," "anything," after finishing first in the ACC regular season for the first time in school history in 1990. Until that point, Clemson hadn't sniffed a regular season finish at the top spot in the conference's 36 year existence. Ellis also probably knew that his Tigers would have no chance to cut the nets down in Greensboro.

After much campaigning, the ACC finally granted Ellis and Clemson the right to hoist a banner in LittleJohn commemorating the non-title. Since then, every school has followed suit, even my beloved Duke. I'm certainly glad the regular season cloth receiver is not the true champion of the ACC, but I guess I have no problem with banners being raised for it.

I did not know, however, that a trophy was actually granted. I guess that trophy is kind of like the token "you're a winner, too" trophy the losers get in little league.

In little league the team that wins the regular season is the champion. That is how it should be.

In little league, at least the division I played in, the champion is determined by the league tournament that is held at the end of the season. For example, the Southwood League Tournament decided who won the trophies when I pitched for the Portage organization.

That is how it should be.

In the little league I played and coached in, the league champion was determined by the regular season. At the end of the season an All Star team was selected. This All Star team played in various tournaments throughout central Ohio.

My little league had a tournament where the winner was awarded the champions trophy. I think it should be two separate distinctions though. Regular season is the better team throughout the whole year and should be recognized, but the tourney champion should also be given some sort of harware for their accomplishments.
