I know. I dont mean to make jokes, at a time like this. Sounds like she may be fine though, and the best of luck to her!!!!

I don't have $3,000 but I'd find it if my dog ever got sick....so I'm with you on this one.

Good luck and I hope she starts feeling better soon.

We spent about $2500 for our dog when she had a cancer surgery. Even with the surgery the vet said she may only have 12 months to live. That was 3 years ago....She is worth every penny of the $2500 !

The only thing I know about Parvo is that at OSU if you come to the clinic with a dog suspected of Parvo they won't let you bring the dog inside, they come out to get the dog in biosuits, they then surround the dog in sterile material and instantly take it in through a separate entrance to isolation.

Did you know a vet by the name of Grueser that used to be in Logan?
It has been thirty years ago I had a litter of Dobermans and four of the pups came down with parvo. At that time I had never heard the word parvo. It was the second case of it the Dr. Grueser had seen. Talk about some sick pups, some were given IV's and we had to force feed them chicken broth. But the bottom line all four pulled through. I wish you and your pup the best of luck.

A little better news I guess..I guess the 3 grand was for a 3 day visit..we just had to pay for it all up front of course. They said she could react to everything really well and she could even be home as soon as tomorrow. So if that's the case..it won't cost near that amount.

Yes..they have been keeping her isolated from all the other dogs..of course..that's an extra 200 bucks too, just to do that! :)

Don't recall a Grueser...we always have taken our animals to Valerie Daubenmire. She's the one on Iron St.

I have a dog question. Does a Vet only have to give a heartworm test or is there a test that you can buy and "do it at home"?

We have a year and a half old Labradoodle that is due for his heartworm test.

Ouch!
I love my pets (Goldens) but at $3000.00 I would have to have guaranties of full recovery and even then …….emotional link would have to be limited over the cost of care and continuous medication factor. Problem is wife ……. She would drop that $3000.00 in a heartbeat………. So I would lose, dog lives and I get the bill PREFECT

Go Chiefs, she took over his practice, he was in the same building as her. It is a shame you didn't have the chance to know him, he was a great vet and even a better person.

You're from Logan too? Do you know the Armstrong family? Their daughter is in Vet School at OSU. Gochiefs knows her.

The test is cheap, the meds to prevent the test are what costs.

I had a rot that got parvo @ 18 months. He didn't make it. I blame the vet.
I wish your dog a full recovery.
I have 3 dogs right now and I couldn't bare losing any of them to parvo. I would also do what it takes.

Is there any evidence your pup ate something dead? Mine ate a dead bird.

Nope..they are supervised when outside..kinda clueless as to where she got it though. Been here for 4 years..and we have a privacy fence around our backyard. They haven't been outside the fence lately..so I don't know where she got it.

Why do you blame the vet?
I took him on Saturday over labor day weekend and he let the dog unattended Sunday and Monday. He told me he would keep him and check on him during the holiday weekend making sure to keep him hydrated with IV's and meds0. When I couldn't reach him on Sunday for an update I went down to the vet and sat in the parking lot. The vet never showed up until 3:30 pm Monday. I was waiting for the vet and my dog was gone. I never left the parking lot. It was not a very nice scene.

My dog was strong and with proper treatment and supervision he would have made it. I am sure of it.

I wouldn't trust a vet on 24 hour ICU care. That is why places like MedVet and OSU exist as well as other 24 hour hospitals.

Back when this happened I am sure OSU was there but I don't think Canton even had a 24 hour vet.
My first instinct was to call my vet. Luckily I have never been in that situation since but the vet I have now would never have let that happen and I trust him.

Unfortunately the vet is still in practice in T-County but not his own practice. He works for another vet after he disappeared for a while. I later learned he had many issues where people were not happy with him.

Valley View is a 24 hour clinic in Dover

I should get the list of 24 hour vet hospitals from OSU and post it here as a reference. They have a list of everyone that is staffed for ICU care in the state of Ohio because of the drive time being too long for basic emergencies.

We took our dog for her surgery to Akron Vet Clinic which is also a 24 hour clinic. They were great.

Glad to hear it was cought fast ! I have a 10 year old Siberian and you are going to love watching that dog over the years. Is She ( the dog ) talking yet? they ( siberian huskys ) tend to talk alot! Good luck.
