Bird Nation, all visitors dress in the classroom at Johnstown. Loudonville is not the first team to do it. Also, all teams in the MBC see bad referees each season. Live with it.
I'll agree with the refs. You should have seen Utica/Cburg's JV game yesterday. I know it's JV, but the two guys that did it didn't belong reffing YMCA ball, let alone anything to do with high school basketball. As an example, Utica inbounded the ball after a made foul shot and we started up the floor about two or three dribbles, and the buzzer sounded (to signal that a sub needed to come into the game). It was obviously late, should have sounded before Utica inbounded the ball, but all the girls for both teams stopped and the girl for Centerburg that was being taken out even started to jog over towards the bench to come out. Our PG threw the ball over to the ref, who kindly stepped out of the way and let it go out of bounds, and signaled it as a turnover and Centerburg's ball! When Utica's coaches and bench (and all the fans I might add) started having a cow, the ref went over to the scorers table to talk to the coaches, and instead of changing the call (since when the buzzer sounded, the ball should be dead and Utica should have had to inbound it again from the spot of the ball when the buzzer sounded), instead of correcting it and letting us rightfully keep possession, he T's up coach Snow, who is arguing (correctly) what the call should have been! So, in a 3 point game late in the 4th period (about 4 mins left in the game) Centerburg got the ball and two free foul shots, all from the refs mistake. They ended up winning by 1 point. And that's just one of about 5-6 terrible calls, that were made BOTH WAYS in the game. However, the biggest calls went against us all game long, including what should have been an intentional foul that was never called, and at one point the fouls were in favor of Centerburg 8-2. I mean come on. Of course we foul, but they didn't at all??
Just so you know R_S_P I'm going to side with the referee's in giving Snow the T. And I quote
NFHS Rule book in Rule 10 Section 4.
hte head coach is reponsible for his/her own conduct and behavior, as well as substitutes, disqualified team mebers and all other bench personnel. Bench personnel, including the head coach,
SHALL NOT:
Art. 1.
Commit an unsporting foul. This includes, but is not limited to, acts or conduct such as:
a.
Disrespectfully addressing an official.
b. Attempting to influence an official's decision.
c. Using profane or
inappropriate language or obscene gestures.
d. Disrespectfully addressing, baiting or taunting an opponent.
e.
Objecting to an official's decision by rising from the bench or using gestures.
f. Inciting undesirable crowd reactions.
g. Being charged with fighting.
h. Reemoving the jersey and/or pants/skirt within the visual confines of the playing area.
I am going to venture to guess the areas in the bold type are the reasons for the Tecnical foul. She was also in violation I'm going to venture a guess of also Art. 4 were it states "Stand at the team bench while the clock is runnng or is stopped, and must remain seated, except
a. The head coach rule as in 10-5-1."
Now that I have quoted my reasonings for the T. As a referee the guy making the call on the call on the floor was incorrect, I agree with you there. BUT the only person allowed to argue the fact that the call was incorrect is the HEAD COACH, and since this was a JV game that is NOT Coach Snow. Thus the reason for the T. Was the guy wrong in making the call? YES. Was he wrong for giving the T? I'm going to say without actually seeing what happened NO.
And just so you don't think I am some fan that is spouting off. I am a class 1 (varsity qualified) referee with 4 years of experience in the game of basketball for the OHSAA.
