Reading on one of the Carolina forums that Travis Wear may have injured an ankle in practice today. It hasn't been confirmed, and apparently McDonald has denied it on his Twitter, but that would be about typical. If this is true, this is like the sixth Carolina player to have ankle/foot problems this season. Whatever team shoe they have, it has to go now!

One of my favorite Duke - UNC games..

As for the game, this is UNC - Duke.. Records can be thrown out..

But, a few things scare me..

Our inability to suddenly NOT put up points could kill u in this game. Our defense hasn't been great thus far, and Duke has the ability to get off to great starts.

Our guard play. It's shaky at best. Duke pressures the ball as good as anyone and this could be complete havoc on our backcourt.

I'd like to say that UNC will keep it close, but I have a terrible feeling that Duke may win going away. This is Dukes year to get past UNC though, so if they can't do it this season, fagetaboudit!

My best friend is a Duke fan, he's been hearing from me for a few years now.. If Duke wins, he's going to let a lot of the frustration out lol.. At least I have the two titles in 4 years t fall back on.. But, that honestly doesn't matter now. This is Duke and UNC. There is no outside argument. It's what you do on THIS night that matters.

My head says 84-69 Duke

My heart says 77-75 UNC

As mentioned above this game has the potential to get ugly quick. Somone needs to step up and become the "go to" guy, without that all the guys look scared and no one knows what the hell to do. We need to take advantage of our size and dominate the paint. I guess I'm just hoping either Dex, or Davis will become the new Dook killer or maybe two Wier twins will = one Hansbrough type performance.

I've always wanted to attend a Duke/UNC at the Dome. I've been to 2 at CIS.

But as for the game tonight I think it will be a good one but I see Duke closing it down the stretch and winning by 7. Should be a great game and I can not wait for it.

It wasn't too long ago that Duke dominated this series with something like 16 out of 18 wins. UNC has been dominant lately...looks like Duke has the advantage this year...I hope that Duke begins another long run tonight, but would not be unhappy if it became more back and forth on a yearly basis.

Enjoy it Duke fans, because the tables have turned, both in conference and nationally.

While I'm still very nervous about tonight, I also recognize that Duke better win this one by 10+. I don't care about the circumstances. A solid win is a must for the Blue Devils tonight.

I'm sure it will be close to the near end, though. That's Duke-Carolina.

As for the injury of Tyler Wear, which has now been reported publicly by Roy (no surprise), this hurts Duke more than it does North Carolina.

At any rate, despite Roy's usual tactics, it is a non-issue.

Can't wait for tonight's game to begin. This could be excellent theatre in the opera house.

Not sure how you can come to that conclusion, but OK.

I've been watching these games since 1986. I'm a Duke fan for sure, but I respect the series and the rivalry. UNC's athletes always give Duke some trouble....it's at UNC. Any sort of Duke win and I will be ecstatic.....a 5 OT crap fest on a bad call or a 25 point blowout....I don't care. I think Duke is maybe 8-10 points better than UNC...but I've seen Duke on the road and it's not always pretty.

I say UNC at home and Duke on the road are pretty close and this game will have UNC with their most energy/effort maybe all season. UNC players and coaches knows this is a desperate time....their back are against the wall....Duke is just ho-humming along looking at about a #3 seed in the NCAA tourney........UNC is desperate and for any Duke fan to assume this struggling team won't be hitting on many cylinders is really setting themselves up for a big letdown. You've said over and over that this Duke team is a sweet 16 team.....and you don't think UNC can beat a sweet 16 team while playing at Chapel Hill?

I hope you're right and I'm wrong.....I don't care top be wrong......but I hate being letdown.

I'm not saying Duke will win big. I haven't said that at all. I've stated that I think Duke should win by 10+ (easy), but I'm so sure it will happen.

However, this Carolina team is awful. Missing the NIT bad. (They'll likely get an invite and decent seed in March's MSG gala, but likely won't even reach MSG.) This team isn't much better than the Heels' 2002 version. They're better, but not by much. And that year Duke crushed them in the Dean Dome. Hell, Duke drilled Carolina there in '01, too, when UNC was ranked in the top five.

My point is that there's a good chance Duke wins big tonight. So I wouldn't necessarily say that they'll win in a nail-biter or lose.

After watching Carolina kick us in the ass the past few years, though, I certainly feel your placid point-of-view. I just want a damn win.

I can see that you believe Roy is making excuses, but it's a fact that those guys won't be playing tonight. I see nothing wrong with coming out and saying that when it's true. Duke fans are awfully touchy about Carolina injuries. I'm guessing it's because they didn't like getting their tails kicked by an injured Ty Lawson.

With TWear out, it looks like John Henson may be forced to play more minutes. With the way he has been playing lately, that may be a good thing. Carolina needs Henson to live up to expectations tonight. It would be nice to see him making some plays with his athleticism, blocking some shots, and using his giant wingspan to get into passing lanes.

Only about 8 hours now. Even with Carolina struggling, this is still THE game. Can't wait!

Geez, if only Carolina had someone decent coming in to help next year. Maybe if they could have landed the top rated recruit in the nation. Oh, wait, they did?

Carolina has nobody who can consistently score from the perimeter. Barnes and Bullock should help both with scoring and athleticism that is severely lacking this season. Relegating Will Graves to a 10 minute a night zone-buster will do wonders for the offense. If the Heels can get more consistent scoring elsewhere, it will take a load off of Drew and Marshall. But point guard is still a major concern and I doubt play at the position will be good enough to make Carolina a true contender next season.

Don't get me wrong, if Singler returns, Duke will be the best team in the ACC again next year. But Duke still can't recruit an impact big, which means they will never be a true National Title contender until they do. And if Irving is all that, he is going to be one-and-done and losing him along with Singler puts Duke right back where they have been in '11-'12. Meanwhile, Roy keeps bringing in big time bigs like James McAdoo. Duke's best hope is that the third Plumlee is better than the previous two, which ain't gonna happen according to many early rankings.

Duke does have a solid incoming freshman at the power forward spot heading to campus in fall 2010. Four-star commit Josh Hairston. With Singler's return probable, Mason and Miles Plumlee and the vastly improving Ryan Kelly servicing the Blue Devils on the interior, Duke is in fine shape inside.

Add Kyrie Irving to the mix, perhaps the closest high school point guard we've seen to the talents of former Duke NPOTY Jason Williams, along with Seth Curry (whom many believe to already be Duke's best guard from what Curry has shown in practices with the Devils), Nolan Smith, Andre Dawkins and four-star commit Tyler Thornton, who will spell Irving at the point, and you have the makings of a special group.

With Singler back, and a solid cast of big men, the best Duke will have had in years, Duke is a national title favorite a year from now. No doubt about it.

However, we will be. And I think you might even know it. This rivalry could be turning over the next several years. Next year alone, Duke will have three NPOTY caliber starters and a strong foundation of big men. Irving is that final piece that could put Duke over the top and back into the forefront of college basketball. Where we belong
