2005-2007 the ohio state teams had more nfl talent than any other team in college football and came away with zero national titles. ZERO!! and two of those national title losses were blow outs.

for starters, i didnt bash anything other than your blind fandom to anything ohio state. (notre dame has nothing to do with this thread).

secondly, urban meyer had the second best team in the country this season and the only reason he didnt make it to the national title is because he had to face alabama (the national title winner)

ohio state is the conferences top dawg and will be for some time. obviously, the ohio state path to the national title is easier than the sec path...

ohio state brings in sec talent but participates in the big ten, they are in an ideal situation.

In 2001 OSU was 7-5. I don't believe that Meyer would have won a title with that group.

And Meyer didn't win 4 titles (yet) at Florida. Do you really think the players at OSU are that much better than the players in Florida?

We'll never agree and I know what the draft #'s are. Florida was smaller and hit holes quicker, though many of those type players don't translate as well to the NFL, they'll simply drop on the draft board due to lack of size. The same old power/speed argument, however tiresome it is, it applied then.

I think it is hard to compare and contrast Woody and JT by using just wins and losses. The landscape of college football has changed a lot since Woody was at OSU. For example, the amount of scholarships and recruiting practices have changed. It is harder for the large schools to load up on top prospects.

Good point. Number of players sent to the NFL is not a particularly stromg measure of talent in the context of the college game.

It's unfair to compare Tressel to Woody, this is a different time with scholarship limits. The talent is more spread out and there are many more good teams than when Woody coached and yes I'm old enough to remember almost all Woody's years at OSU, the last few of which were nothing to brag about. Tressel is a great CEO of the program and an above average recruiter. As far as his style of play an .820 winning percentage is hard to argue with (also better than Woody's) I gave Tressel a 9 because I agree at times he is too coservative (settles for too many field goals) that sometimes come back to cost him in close games. Woody was a legend and most Buckeye fans would give him a 10, Tressel is not that much behind.

I voted 7 because of the way he calls his offense.

That alone is what keeps him from being a very good coach.

Based on what? This is terrible logic, because you are predicting the future with no cause. If Tressel goes on to win 14 Big Ten championships, and 5 more National titles, how can he not be better?

Same stupid logic that people use to justify Micheal Jordan will never be surpassed, this is all an unknown. It could very well happen, and in that case, I know of at least one player who I'd put above Jordan.

the examples may exist but they are few and far between.

anyways, quick, fast, explosive but *small* players get drafted in the first round all time. ytown's point was not a very good one.
