Exactly. I had a Sportage until October (it about blew up) and it was a damn good car for me to be able to move back and forth between school and home.

Smart cars are awful cars on a value basis unless (i) you live in a European city like Rome that is notorious for having narrow streets and tight parking or (ii) you live in an urban area and simply can't parallel park a normal sized car. Their efficiency really isn't that impressive and they still cost too much.

The Jetta is #1 and it's not even close. It's not even acceptable if it's your girlfriend's car under any circumstance.
