Do most of you typically head out for lunch, or pack a lunch and kind of work through while eating?

Personally, I hate not leaving the office for 1-1.5 hrs for lunch. I just need the break. My wife will routinely work through lunch (yet not leave any earlier) and I think that's crazy and unhealthy. Even the times I pack a lunch to save money, I will still go out with some co-workers just to get away for a bit.

I snack throughout the day so I guess I would fit into your parameters of work through while eating. I don't really have a defined lunch unless there's a planned lunch meeting with a client.

I do a little of both. Definitely does feel good to get out of the office for a while.

Most days, I take a couple walks around the park outside my office building for 10-15 minutes just to decompress a little. So, even when I don't go out for lunch I'm still getting away from my desk for at least a little while.

I typically pack and eat at my desk. I'll grab lunch once or twice a week, but I still usually bring it back and eat at my desk. Now that the weather is getting nicer I'll probably take my lunch to a park once or twice a week.

That would be a nice alternative.

I just cant stand to be in the same area for so long (9-5). Then again, I'm the guy who doesn't mind going to the grocery store on 10am on a Saturday if I've been up too long and am bored lol.

Second question for those who pack and eat at office...how do you make up for that "lunch hour"?

Leave early? More breaks during the day? Sales so you want as much time to work for commission anyway?

Depends on my workload. I prefer to go out, but sometimes I sit at my desk. I rarely take a full hour, but you best believe I am until next Friday!

1-2 days a week I'm out to eat with clients or coworkers. The other days I go out to eat for lunch.

I like the time away from my office. And I hate eating here with coworkers. Nothing worse than trying to eat my jimmy John's and some fucking guy won't shut the hell up in our break room about his ear infection.

I work 8-5/6, eat lunch at my desk nearly everyday. I do take breaks to look at the internet/ twitter though. There really is nothing close to eat so it's a whole thing to go out somewhere. We also have a distribution center attached, so I'm not about to go to the break room to eat.

Usually pack and take to work. Sometimes, I go out and pick up something to bring back and rarely, I'll actually go out to eat.

When I was in an office I would usually pack four days a week and eat at my desk. I didn't do any work, though. I would watch a show or read a book. One day a week I would grab lunch and bring it back, run errands or just sit alone in a restaurant and eat, lol. I like my alone time.

Now that I work from home, I find myself working through lunch almost every day. I honestly don't know why I do it. I can't really trust my boss to handle things while I am gone, and it's even harder to communicate that I am stepping out now that we are not in the same office suite. I will try to zone out and watch a show, etc. but then I see an email in my inbox and it just sits there waiting for him to handle it, and I can only take so much before I just reply and do it myself. I started working from home on January 3rd, and I have only left my house for lunch three times since then. I don't leave early, either. I just mark 80 hours each pay period, otherwise I will be accused of nickel and diming.

So yeah. Things are great, lol.

Kinda the same here, workout area is next to my home office, then shower and eat out of my own kitchen.

Most days I don't even eat lunch, but I'm required to take an hour and it's a policy that I hate. It's unpaid. I work 8 hours either way. I don't need more than 30 minutes for lunch. It just keeps me at the office longer without getting paid anything extra.

If I could go out everyday I probably would. Just during a break I grab some small meals/snacks a couple times a day.

Before I retired, as an FLSA-exempt manager ("salaried" to you non-government folks) I'd bring lunch from home and eat at my desk while working, usually to respond to the morning rush of emails . Technically I got an hour, but I'd take only 30 minutes, so the agency got an extra 30 minutes work out of me for free.

On Fridays I'd plan to go out somewhere for a sit-down meal, or get something really tasty and bad for my arteries, bring it back, close my office door, put on some music, and relax.

That last year I was pushing the envelope with a couple of 90-minute lunches, but I figured it made up for all the other short ones. That last month I believe one of them lasted 2.5 hours. Nobody cared. That's when I knew it was time to leave.

Lunch is provided for me at the office, I will eat it every day that I can.

It's soup, salad, and sandwich. Everything is fresh. No complaints. I enjoy eating with my coworkers.
