I stand corrected on my comments about Ray Farmer and the "crickets." Apparently, he must have received the rest of the money the Browns owed him because he's making the interview rounds and is telling a different story than previously. Before, Farmer had pretty much dove on the sword and said Manziel was his pick.

Recently he was interviewed and pretty much collaborated Joe Banner's story about Manziel not even being on the Browns radar up until a month before the draft (Banner said 3 months, when he was fired). According to Farmer, their top QB targets were Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr (fuckers). Sounds like they leaned on Kyle Shanahan pretty hard in the QB evaluations. Shanahan has also said he liked Garoppolo a lot too.

Farmer went on to say that, just as most of us thought, the Manziel pick was pushed on them by the owner (Haslam).

I do think that Garrett should be the lock at #1 but shit like this scares the Hell out of me.

I'm sure that's probably true, but how do we know? I'd say the same thing if I was farmer. "Yeah I wanted Carr (the best QB n the draft), and definitely did not want (the bust) Manziel.

It's been out there for a while that they paid some research firm (think it had something to do with metrics) $100k to help them and the QB that was recommended was Bridgewater. It's also been out there for a while that Shanahan favored Carr & Garoppolo so I don't think this is a stretch.

Haslam is pretty much an idiot. I'm starting to think his wife knows more about the game than he does. Just be the owner and let the football guys do football.

Dude built a huge business on the back of having the right guys in the right places, why would he now, in a business that he doesn't have any background in, would he think he is smarter than the other guys in the room.

I'm cautious about this (just because we are conditioned to expect the Browns to make the worst decisions), but I tend to agree. When he brought in this current FO and Hue, I think he finally succumbed to the idea of having a complete rebuilding process, and trusting the experts to make the decisions. No shortcuts.

What you're saying makes sense, to a smart fan who wants to win. Haslam likely wants to win but the bottom line is him making $$$$ and putting butts in seats. A hometown kid could certainly do that although I think many fans are so jaded towards this team that even they aren't buying in to the Bernie Kosar Effect and want the best player.

Oh I have no doubt that Manziel probably wasn't the FO's guy, and Haslam had influence on that.

I'm just saying this looks like Farmer trying to save his career a little bit by saying "well I wanted the all pro QB in this draft, the owner that fired me was the one who wanted the bust!"

I went to the patriots game last year, if not for the Pats fans there, there'd be maybe 45% capacity lol. If his goal is to put cheeks in the seats, he's failing his goal.

FWIW (absolutely nothing), both kiper and mcshay have Trubisky going 1 overall.

I think that's what the Manziel pick was for....to create a buzz. That fizzled and he can probably see he's losing fan base. Hell, between Lerner & Haslam, the Browns have pretty much lost a generation fan base. Most of the idiots here in NE Ohio are letting their kids root for the Steelers.

Oh, I agree. With how fickle some fans are, if Pig Ben retired and they sucked ass for a few years, while the Browns became good, you'd see the local kids jumping ship to the Browns like rats.

So, for the first time since I can remember as a kid, I have (on purpose) paid ZERO attention to any and all draft talk/evaltuations/combine/etc.

I have paid zero attention to football since the Super Bowl, save for knowing some of the FA stuff.

I don't even know most of the players in the draft other than watching college football all the time.

I just decided this year will be different, I won't know anything and therefore won't have my heart set on XYZ guy at this spot and ABC at this pick, etc.

So tell me, what's the consensus believe on what the Browns will do with #1? #12? Trade either?

Given their track record and dysfunction in the front office......they will undoubtedly screw up whatever direction they go.

Sadly, no, but most of my Friday-Saturday draft paying attention revolves around going online and see who has been picked every couple hours. Pick #1 should be Myles garrett. He's the consensus best player available in this draft. There's some talk about Trubisky going #1 but that's just talk driven up by espn (it's only espn guys talking about this) to increase ratings for their draft tonight.

Pick #12, who fucking knows. So many areas of need on this team, most think they'll sit tight and take BPA. Some think they'll bundle this pick and some other assets to move up and draft a QB. If you're asking me, they'll take BPA available at 12 and call it a night.

All this talk about trubisky has some teams scrambling in the top 10. The jags are now talking about Watson at 4. I really think this is a ploy to get teams to go after qb's early so a stud defensive player drops to 12. Which if that happens, I will give major props to the browns front office.
